You never know how a jury will react. There are actual questions about how this went down, but with a competent and sober defense, he’d likely get off. But by turning this into a circus, you make the whole thing more tenuous. And the job of the lawyer is to convince the jury, not make the media look bad (they do that well enough on their own).
There is also no similarity between this and Sandmann case. That was a Civil suit against the media, so hey, there was a reason to light them up there. This is against a state prosecutor, who likely wants to nail the kid, and is going to do everything in his power to do so. That he hired the Sandmann lawyer just shows how ignorant he is of how this stuff works. The best thing moving forward would be to drop this legal team of hucksters, and go bring in a couple of experienced attorneys who will make the best case possible, and get him off of the worst charges.
