Breaking News Justice Breyer Retiring (US SCOTUS)

Even if we suppose that diversity is needed, that's not an argument to pick a black woman. If anything, that's an argument against it, as we already have one black man on the court (except for the fact that he obviously doesn't count as black).

Sometimes I get the impression that the left thinks that this country is just equally divided between black, hispanic, and white.

I was referring to the diversity of the US Supreme Court, which is badly needed.

Why on earth should diversity matter when only how good you are at a job is all that SHOULD matter?

I'd much rather have a group of nine judges we know nothing about characteristics wise except that they were incredibly good constitutional scholars. We could call them judges 1-9 and I'd prefer knowing nothing about them but their various legal opinions.

To hell with pointless diversity.

The problem is the Supreme Court is already perfectly diverse.

African Americans make up roughly 12% of the U.S. overall population at forty million. Hispanics both illegally and legally make up about 18.5% at fifty nine million.

There are only nine total justices which if scaled up in proportion of the population to justices mean African Americans have more representation in proportion to their population while Hispanics have less although that's ignoring the rabbit hole that 1/3 of hispanics in the U.S. are illegal immigrants and if they deserve the extra representation from them.

If the Dems cared about fair rair representation across the board they would be talking about Hispanics now and not their most solidly loyal demographic, it's purely political on that front.

Guys, maybe ease up on 49ers a bit. I think he's aware his position is not particularly popular and you want to explain why it's faulty, but we should let him actually articulate why he thinks what he thinks first.

Not surprised Biden nominated Brown Jackson.

It's a bit surprising, most of the article's I've read have suggested she's probably the weaker candidate compared to Kruger, even viewed under a progressive light.

Unless you mean it's not surprising given Biden's generally bad decision making, in which case yes, this fits.

"Come on, man! Why all the hate? Really, why all the hate? I make all kinds of great decisions! All kinds of great decisions. Let me tell you more about my favorite flavor of ice cream....the one they wipe off my butt! Oh wait, that's not ice cream...where's Corn Pop?"

I'm surprised they haven't captioned a picture of Biden with him saying. "4000 members of the puppeteers union and the one I got has cold hands!"
KBJ will likely get zero or maybe 2 GOP votes in the United States Senate. I mean the days of overwhelming bipartisan support for judicial nominees are gone.

Do you think most Americans know real demographics the magic box shows them it is evenly divided so that is what they think it is.

Tom is fucking awesome and in glad he's there

Put Roy Moore on the bench.

Not because of any merit, but because he's a complete maniac whose dissenting pieces would be a delight to read. Plus he's one of the few former Judges with the guts to call for states to disobey the SCOTUS when it's rulings are blatantly criminal.

We need more erosion of the mystique of our institutions not less.

A SCOTUS justice should be considered with that in mind.
