So let's get this out of the way, no, you're wrong. The age of consent in the USA is not 18. There is, in fact, NO NATIONAL AGE OF CONSENT, and it would be ILLEGAL for the Federal Government to set one, as such laws are clearly within the power of the States and was not remitted to the Federal government by them.
What actually exsists is this:
With more than half the states having a minimum age of consent of 16, with a handful at 17, and then a bunch at 18. Most states ALSO have close in age exceptions for these laws (IE age of consent is 18, but if the two in question are 19 and 17 there's no crime), with a notable EXCEPTION: California.
Which is why everyone things the US has this HARD 18 Age of Consent, because so much media was made in California with their hard laws that it literally created media tropes like the boyfriend counting down days until the girl is 18, which isn't a thing in the VAST MAJORITY of the country, EXCEPT California.

This map is inaccurate. the basic age of consent is 18.
There is an EXCEPTION for married couples. lowering age of consent to 17 and 16 in SOME states but only for married couples. which requires special dispensation from both the parents AND a judge.
most states also have an exception based on gap (eg within 4 years of each other is ok)
... and california has an exception for paying a pimp to rape a child prostitute. because 90% of the times it is done by an LGBT person so it cannot be criminalized. so they have a bunch of protections such as getting off scots free for first time offenders.
This is false for the state of Texas. Age of consent is 17, straight up. Marriage can happen for 16 y/o's in TX with parental consent. The Romeo n Juliet laws here have a range of 3 years so an 18 y/o could have consensual and legal sex with a 15 y/o.
The HOWEVER applies to situations involving prostitution, trafficking, or certain authority figures (e.g., guardians, coaches). Additionally, federal laws may apply in cases involving minors under 18 for activities like producing explicit content or crossing state lines.

Still though while states do vary their laws with 16,17, or 18. Many states with an aoc of 16 still have laws against corruption of minors. This guy took advantage allegedly of a girl who was a run away after he offered his home to her and she accused him. Now if they were married or long term boyfriend girlfriend then it would be different. But that isn’t the case here so corruption of a minor is appropriate. If he did it of course.
It's also caused a massive culture shift in the mindset of most Americans to a degree that anyone who is outside of the States finds disturbing/hilarious.
Socially in the UK, if a 16 year old were shagging her 19 or 20 year old boyfriend, no one would care outside of the usual stuff which would apply to any relationship (e.g. "is one party being coerced", "is he/she a good person for my son/daughter/sister/brother", et cetera). Obviously there are laws against things like making porn and shit, but I'm just talking about regular relationships and consenting sexual activity between people of a relatively same age-range.
Hell, a lot of my friendgroup had age-gap relationships with'd freak the typical American out, with some resulting in marriages and families which still stand to this day (we're all nearing our 40's now).
No joke, I've seen Americans go batshit crazy and screech "PEDO! PEDO!" at some poor 19 year old kid when he was asking for advice on how to break up/distance himself from his emotionally abusive girlfriend... Who was 17.
Hilariously, there was a case a few years back where a 21 year old footballer had a 16 year old girlfriend, and they were having sex. Both were consenting and in love, but the media and parts of the public raked him over the coals.
Most people? Didn't give a shit because it weren't something obscene like a 25 or 35 year old dude with, say, a 14 year old or anything else as fucked up, and they were like "what's the issue? Because he weren't going out with some 20/22 year old WAG bimbo?".
Age gaps outside of America would horrify the average American to a hilarious degree, not gonna lie.
America also, IMHO, has a bit of creepy cultural infantilisation going on, with teenagers who are 16--19 being treated like they're still 11--14 by their parents, and adults in college/their early 20's being treated like teenagers. Then again, that might just be California produced media again. shrug

That's the one thing I actually agree with, if only because the American healthcare system is horrifically predatory.
Even a minor illness requiring treatment can financially fuck over people for years. If it's something like cancer? You're pretty much going to die a pauper, if the cancer doesn't kill you first.
When you hear of people literally dying in bed or on their couches because they're terrified of how they'd go bankrupt over what could just be a minor illness (e.g. flu), you know something is terribly wrong.
Then again, our country isn't much better: While the NHS is free outside of paid taxes, the wait list for non-emergencies (and even then sometimes there are waitlists!) is just as horrific: What should be a consultation, diagnosis, and treatment plan that'd take six months can take up to two years plus because of how disorganized the system is and how funds are misused ("Two million for new medicines and machines? Nah, we'll just pay our far too many directors a bonus of a couple of hundred thousand, and spend the rest on art and a big ball of marble for our lobby.").
It's monetarily free, but the cost is in time.
...Well, at least we're not at the Canadian-"Oh, have you considered euthanasia?"-step. Yet.

I didn't express disagreement with it. As you said, american healthcare system is very bad. As it was created by the demonrats in the 80s. And obama made it worse.
Rather, I was pointing out that 25 year olds were considered to still be "children"
