In OKLAHOMA? A place that is mostly just pissed off that Texas said to piss off with masks first? The hell were they thinking?

P.S. Doctor McFarland? Doctorate in what, asshat? Your doctorate has no bearing on whether or not human rights are being violated, and attempting to excuse those actions by belittlement and appeal to your own authority does no good for your argument.
I had basically the same reaction. Oklahoma's so conservative even the dirt turned red, I'm deeply surprised to see this even in their universities.

Bright Sheng, a Professor of Musical Composition at the University of Michigan, was born in 1955 in CHI-NA and was old enough to remember the Red Guards taking away the families piano during Mao's Cultural Revolution. His music has been performed by dozens of the most prestigious musical institutions around the world including the New York and Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Boston and Chicago Symphony, the National Symphony of Russia, Denmark, Spain New Zealand and many others including various orchestras and operas as well as performing alongside such musicians as Yo Yo Ma and Leonard Bernstein.

He helped compose music for the 2008 Beijing Olympics Opening Ceremony and been a twice runner up for the Pulitizer Prize in Music.

One might think it'd be an amazing honor to study under him. But now his undergrads want to cancel him... Why?

He screened the 1965 version of Shakespeare's Othello in class as part of a lesson about how the play was adapted for the opera. This version stars Laurence Olivier, a white actor, who wore blackface to portray the protagonist Othello, a Moor. The choice was controversial even at the time, and today, the portrayal is considered by many to be akin to a racial caricature.

It's not clear whether Sheng, who was born and raised in China, understood blackface's specifically American legacy, and why such a portrayal is considered offensive. But he swiftly apologized for screening this version of the film.

"I thought (that) in most cases, the casting principle was based on the music quality of the singers," Sheng told The Michigan Daily. "Of course, time (sic) has changed, and I made a mistake in showing this film. It was insensitive of me, and I am very sorry."

His apology fell on deaf (no pun intended) ears.

Reason said:
"In such a school that preaches diversity and making sure that they understand the history of POC (people of color) in America, I was shocked that (Sheng) would show something like this in something that's supposed to be a safe space," one student told the Daily.

Other students signed an open letter calling on Sheng to be removed from his teaching position for failing to "create a safe environment." Their letter laments that such a thing could have happened, even though 100 percent of professors are required to take diversity training.

One of Sheng's colleagues, Evan Chambers, another professor of composition, sided with the students and accused Sheng of committing a "racist act."

"To show the film now, especially without substantial framing, content advisory and a focus on its inherent racism is in itself a racist act, regardless of the professor's intentions," said Chambers. "We need to acknowledge that as a community."

...

"Professor Sheng responded to these events by crafting an inflammatory 'apology' letter to the department's students in which he chose to defend himself by listing all of the BIPOC individuals who he has helped or befriended throughout his career," wrote a group of concerned composition students including eight undergraduates, 15 graduate students, and nine staff and faculty members, according to the Daily. "The letter implies that it is thanks to him that many of them have achieved success in their careers."

The graduate students also told the Daily that they were reaching out to the undergraduates to make sure that they felt supported and safe. "What can we do to help the undergraduates? What do they need?" said one. "Clearly they're not going to be in a room with (Sheng) anytime soon."

In Florida, a gentleman began reading from the book prominently displayed and encouraged by the school library to celebrate Pride month.

The school board had the police remove him so he couldn't read it aloud, then suddenly became very obsessed with who was allowed to speak and especially how no parents were allowed to ask them questions about what they'd just heard. Note that the video is pretty filthy stuff. Apparently the book is also heavily illustrated and the pictures inside could not be legally shown on TV so... yeah.

Yeah but he is the governor of the state this took place, so he has some power.

Honestly I am just amazed at the self control of these parents, and think they are far overdoing it. Who is this cunt to demand they behave like children? It's a school board meeting, not the supreme court. Get off your high horse you whore, I am gonna speak back and if you don't like it I will fight you on it. People need to stop being so submissive, they have to understand these commies don't "do" polite society, they abuse your own morals as a way to trample all over you just like they will scream about freedom of speech when you shut them up but cheer when you get shut down.

A Kentucky High School had a Homecoming Event which involved dressing up female students as Hooters Waitresses, and male students dressed up with fake breasts and in lingerie and giving school staff and administrators, including the Principle of Hazard High School Donald "Happy" Mobelini, after a "man pageant." Various students were also paddled apparently during this in-school assembly. Donald "Happy" Mobelini, along with being the High School Principal, is also the Mayor of Hazard, Kentucky.

Some of these pictures were then put up on the High School Athletics Facebook page before outcry had them taken down. The School District then issued an apology, as well as blaming the students for coming up with the idea.

Yeah, that's an incredible amount of restraint that deserves to be simultaneously lauded (because it would take restraint) and also questioned because...like...some mostly-peaceful chair-throwing would not have been unexpected or unwarranted there.

An author and Associate Professor at the esteemed Rutgers University, a big, beautiful and bold Black Woman named Brittney Cooper had some POWERFUL words to share concerning White People.

What did this esteemed scholar from Rutgers Women's Gender and Sexuality Studies Department have to share?

"White people thought, ‘there is a world here, and we own it."

“So they think black people gonna get them back, And I wouldn’t be mad at the black people who want to get them back but what I believe about black people is that we have seen what a shit show this iteration of treatment of other human beings means and that my hope is that we would do it differently in the moments when we have some power.”

“The thing I want to say to you is that we gotta take these motherfuckers out, but like, we can’t say that, right?"

“I don’t believe in a project of violence. I truly don’t,l. Because in the end, I think our souls suffer from that. And I do think some of this is spiritual condition.”

“The world didn’t start when white people arrived in America and tried to tell all the rest of us how things are going to go. There were people out here making worlds – Africans and indigenous people being brilliant, and libraries, and inventions, and vibrant notions of humanity, and cross-cultural exchange long before white people showed up being raggedy and violent and terrible and trying to take everything from everybody.”

It's unknown if the FBI will be investigating these terroristic threats... :sneaky:

This isn't the first time the Professor courted controversy. A long time ago she also put a controversial bounty on a White male smuggler who allegedly dumped a load of spice at the first sign of Customs officials.
