Breaking News Henry Kissinger is dead at 100

Ding dong the witch is dead.

Thank god. He may have been our monster but that doesn't help the fact that he was a monster. Life is generally better when our own acknowledged war criminals are safely ensconced in history rather than in the papers.

The open joy at his death is all the more ridiculous by its obsession with trivial matters.

Kissinger's legacy, whether you want to argue that it was for good or ill, should be defined by his decisions in regards to China and the Soviets. Whether you think it should have been done or not, the opening up of China and detente is a thousand times more important to the world as opposed to whatever the fuck happened in shitholes like Chile and Cambodia.

You know I see people online celebrating his death and all I can think of is that he lived to be 100, died in his home surrounded by his loved ones peacefully, knows people will celebrate his death and not giving a fuck that they will.

More important? Yes.
Worse? Also yes.

If it hadn't been for the opening up of China we would not be on the brink of WWIII at the moment, because there would never have been a "Rise of China" scenario.

I think the initial opening was worth it and frankly inevitable, though certain decisions taken after Kissinger's time could have been done better. One thing I'd observe is that in a scenario where we didn't open to China at all, you would definitely see a lot of people argue "Well, if we were just nice to China and respected them, then maybe they wouldn't be so angry at us!" By giving them an open hand only for them to swat it away, it's easier for internal and external groups to understand China's instrangience and aggression.

But even if you disagree, the debate over that is way more important than whatever happened in fucking Cambodia.

I was thinking the same thing: Ding-Dong BABY.

Somewhere the family of the late Chilean President Salvador Allende are toasting champagne & partying all night long with the song 'All Night Long'.

FUCK PRC & screw you too!

While I think his push to open China was debatable, he was not responsible for the modern issues nor the rise of China.

That lies squarely on the feet of Bill Clinton.

Something you need to understand, until Bill Clinton took office trade with China was intrinsically linked to annual human rights reviews. This kept US trade with China, and offshoring to them, very low as everyone knew they were terrible in that regard. Heck the Open China policy BARELY survived the Tiananmen Square massacre. Tibet and China treatment of Christians were also ongoing issues.

However, once Clinton took office he removed that review within his first two years in office. From that point trade with, and offshoring to, China EXPLODED, with Clinton's pro-China policies culminating in the granting of Most Favored Trade status in the late 90s.

Basically, Clinton and the Dems are who sold out to China as far back as the early 90s, and set the stage for the rise of China. HW Bush was actually a hardliner on China and likely wouldn't have changed policy... so I guess you can also ironically thank Perot for the collapse of US manufacture and offshoring to China...

Bear me to it.

You are an archive of information my friend.

Same. My reaction to this news was "wait, he was still alive?!"
The same goes for me.
He could die after he saved China from soviets, becouse he fucked world there and then.
If soviets burned and occupy China in 1969,they would fall thanks to economy 10 years later, and we would live in better free world without strong China, and where nobody would dare to praise commie genociders.

Leftists would never take over West here, too.

Allende was well on the way to turning chilie into yet another fucking case of 'that wasn't real socialism' when he got couped that man and his allies firmly deserved their fate as we see in venusuala and Pincochete as time goes on will probally be remembered foundly by history because of all of the counter examples showing up.
