United States Helene News

If you watched the debate Walz was trying to actually debate Vance, unlike Harris who sat back and let the moderators do the debating for her. That's why both Walz and Vance got their Mic's muted, they were debating. Walz gave pushback on the questions he was weak on and seemed to be a half-decent debater.

Well, this is not a good look for the Kamala/Biden/Walz campaign.

How the hell do we run out of FEMA funds when this was perhaps the lightest hurricane season?! Someone's been stealing off the top and got greedy!

Because viewers hate it when the other side's politicians lie during a debate and get away with it.

And that's why you do independent research on topics. It's how I got out of the loop of being a libtard, I actually investigated who I was voting for and what they stood for!

Because FEMA spent all their money housing illegal immigrants, so none left for hurricane victims.

For just one example. They are also trying to shut down helicopters flying aid over too.

Basically, FEMA is in charge.
You can only operate through FEMA.
You must give donations through FEMA.
FEMA will hand out everything.
Go away. FEMA's got this.
Helping people is wrong unless FEMA does it.
I can understand SOMEWHAT why. Basically, with so much search and rescue operations, they don't want mid air collisions to happen (air space deconfliction).
All they need tk do though is "if you are operating in these areas, don't go above this altitude with a drone, without getting clearance"
And then five clearance if there are no other operations in the area.

Not do what they are doing

And from what I understand plenty of air help is getting to the areas outside of drones. Multiple Non Profits and NG units

That's not the real reason why though Zach. Come on, don't believe the stated reason for once. They are doing this to enforce reliance on the government and stop individuals from taking self ownership and helping each other.

Like I said, my reasoning is the only way it makes sense.
Like is said, plenty of Non profits have been flying into these areas

Why would they have a common sense reason if the goal is to screw over the populace?

Your government hates you.

It's about the NGOs and preferred vendors getting paid, and crippling America.

More evidence that the government actively hates you:

They want you dead, they will settle for your compliance.

Alright, just giving my two cents.

I think it's this book here.

It's called Somalia on Five Dollars a Day by Martin Stanton, who was an officer in the 10th Mountain Division. The book itself was primarily about Operation Restore Hope in Somalia in 1992 (prior to the 'Black Hawk Down' Battle of Mogadishu) but before that, he talks about being deployed to Hurricane Andrew as part of the federal response there.

One of the things I still remember despite having read that book a long time ago, was actually about Hurricane Andrew. I don't have the book with me, and it might've been a library return, but I recall he was talking about humanitarian aid and rescue operations and everything and in general he stated that local, impromptu, community oriented groups provided really important service in the initial days of response, and he was referencing how some local NAACP chapter (calm down they served everybody) IIRC was setting up food kitchens and delivering aid and putting idle people to work as one of the examples IIRC, but later they were being bypassed for larger organizations like the Red Cross and whatnot, and the NAACP and other local groups were complaining about being passed over for resources.

The authors viewpoint was that after the initial days of disaster, there's an economy of scale and organization and more established groups (ie larger aid groups with more infrastructure and support and supplies etc) are better able to serve the disaster area after a certain period of time then dozens of 'ad hoc' groups who provide the essential services afterwards.

IIRC, and I think he mentioned this, there was also a period of time where more people "took advantage" of the situation either moving to the area opportunistically or recovering from the shock of the disaster and whatnot and engaging in nefarious and negative actions like scamming and cheating and engaging in fraud etc which could be more exploited with less official and ad hoc groups.

Not saying what stage of response this disaster here is or if its directly applicable, but its something to keep in mind.

Interestingly the asshole in question in this article is apparently some "local fire council/chief." So more of local government misbehavior.

Oh, agreed. Local government can be just as bad as federal government. And it can get a lot worse because the lack of publicity leads to corruption becoming the norm. The classic example is a speed trap town, but this is another example.

As for your Somalia on $5/day, I'd be more sympathetic to that if, yunno, people were being cared for right now by government. But they aren't. Government is both failing and also preventing people from helping.

Also, FEMA got a lot worse since the 90's.

As husky said there are often a lot more reasons for them to prevent others from bringing aide.
Still stupid they arnt letting Drones fly (FAA has stupid ruled on them anyway)
And the whole Hurrican Ida stuff.

State initial response often can make up for FEMA incompetence

. . . So, full disclosure, I now live in the impacted area of Helene, specifically Greeneville TN. The Federal response has been lackluster especially for us, but the town itself has managed things, well, honestly with a level of grace and competence that has been very pleasant. FEMA and TEMA have done jack shit for us so far, only finally having gotten into the area yesterday. Now granted Greeneville and Greene County were probably one of the less impacted locations, due to a quirk of the storm track (basically the Smokey Mountains created a rain shadow that Greene happened to be in so we got much less rain than other locations though we still lost five bridges and had our main (and only) water intake completely destroyed by the flooding), but the entire response has been on the local city and county governments and they've managed things quite well.

The real mess is going to come from the fact FEMA doesn't have the money to help people rebuild from this mess. Hopefully insurance will pay out since there was no reasonable reason for people to need special flood insurance here, but I suspect we're going to see major court fights about it all.

From what I understand TEMA especially focused on the heavily impacted areas, and from what I was seeing via posts and media is they were moving northward from some of the harder hit areas.

But 5 bridges is fucking horrible, and I feel like the Corp of Engineers should get some bridges set up

Air space deconfliction isn't a sexy or fun reason to deal with for air space closure, compared to other conspiracy-type reasons, but anyone who's ever watched Air Disasters knows how easy it can be for planes to collide in crowded and chaotic air space.

This is specifically the reason the government in America wants to keep poor people as poor as possible and wealthy special interests are prioritized over We The People. It truly is the Machiavellian banality of evil, but at the size and scale and power of the U.S. government.
