Movies General Movie Thread

Hmmmm no spoilers...

But apparently Martin Scorsese is a boring SciFi Classics fan.

Too busy to watch the video atm but the title alone induces eye rolls from me. It's clearly not a film centered on Josephine. It's centered on Napoleon and one half of the film is about his relationship with Josephine, the other half being him doing the Napoleon things. There was only like one weird scene I feel, which I mentioned, between Josephine and Napoleon, the rest of it seemed fine.

I feel like this film is like his last film The Last Duel which I'm planning on seeing soon. I missed out on it in theaters because I had the Commie Cough, but I just bought it last week on a Black Friday sale so I want to see if its as good as my friends say. I bring up The Last Duel because while the few folks who I know that saw it firsthand said it was great, when I went on the internet, all of the Hema and YouTube historians kinda seemed to be trashing on it for it not being historical enough or some shit, just like many critics and historians are doing with this new Napoleon film.

They must of not seen Gladiator or Kingdom of Heaven because those were not particularly historically accurate either. But they have, and they love it. There's been a recent upswell I feel for the desire for 'realism' in historical epics when what I think people actually want is more Gladiator and Rome and less Centurion, The Eagle and Genderbent Black Viking Queens.

Daily Wire is going to release a new comedy exclusively on Daily Wire.

Lady Ballers

Ngl it looks pretty bad, as in too slapstick for my tastes like those Scary Movie style spoof films or contemporary Adam Sandler flicks... But I admire the effort.

And I did find many parts of the trailer amusing.

eh looks like a fun watch. probably not gonna be a masterwork or anything but if it is a 6-7/10 with some fun jokes that aren't just going white people bad it would be worth a watch.

They're remaking the classic Patrick Swayze film Road House.

It's starring former Irish UFC Champion Conor McGregor starring opposite of Donnie Darko himself Jake Gyllenhaal. Apparently Jake will be portraying a former UFC fighter who is bouncing at a bar in the Florida Keys, in a "modern twist" of the 1989 classic. :cautious:

Yeah we'll see...

The Critical Drinker reviewed Lady Ballers.

He seemed generous with it. Said it wasn't as funny as Dodgeball or Anchorman but there were a few chuckles thanks to the physical comedy, the visual gags and quippy one liners. But the overall satire was a bit overbearing and too straightforward and in that regard South Park handled presenting the issue better. And obviously, there's more appeal for a person who likes the Daily Wire politics than for a normal person looking for a funny sports comedy to watch.

Comments in the video from those that watched it are interesting as well.

yeah. the bit kinda loses it's luster. like Crowder in a dress. it comes out of nowhere the first time and is hilarious. after the fifth? it is just a silly costume that triggers libs. not particularly funny beyond others reacting to it. I think more film makers should be shooting towards 90 minute movies again. it feels like after LoTRs and HP hollywood forgot how to make a tight story. still a funny watch if you already support the daily wire or are just putting money in to create some competition for hollywood. 6.5/10.

They're doing a remake of the 2005 action film Mr and Mrs Smith.

The original film started Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie and was a pretty funny action comedy.

This new film will star Donald Glover and whoever that lady is.

Apparently someone figured this film needed a remake even though it's been less than twenty years. I mean come on, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt still look more hot then the newer, younger, fresher cast. 🤷‍♀️

I'd say they are doing it because they can. It looks like they simply replaced the origional actors with people of color for a more 'diverse' group. Even if that group won't bother to see the movie.

Hollywood is a zombie these days.

Well the trailer comes out tomorrow so we'll see if your suspicions are true. If I don't forget by then I'll be sure to post the trailer here EXCLUSIVELY IN THIS THREAD.

Be sure to come up with pithy or witty comments by then.

The director's career before Godzilla Minus One (Japanese: ゴジラ-1.0マイナスワン, Hepburn: Gojira Mainasu Wan) ; the most controversial being The Eternal Zero for having an excessively rosy depiction of WW2 Japanese Zero fighters.
