Not really. Especially considering the flip side of this is localizers literally bragging about mis-translating something on social media. Or about how their company has censored something.
*joking* Which still involves the miscreant saying that they did so. *serious* Look, all I'm saying is that fan translations can be just as much as a crapshoot. If you read them completely confident that they will be free of issues... well, prepare to be disappointed.

It's not that I'm completely confident in fan-subs, it's that I've lost confidence in officially licensed localizers. Sony is notorious for its censorship, which is part of why this latest merger is such a problem. Frankly it makes me feel a lot worse about that Dirty Pair dub that had just recently been successfully crowd-funded.

Me, for one. Because, frankly, if you can't actually understand the spoken language, then the audio track is about as useful as random noise. Might as well be watching a silent movie or have Banjo-Kazooie style grunts, for how much good it does you.
Sorry, but you are wrong.
View it as a soundtrack If you wish, but I still prefer fansubs+original audio.

In regards to injecting politics I'd actually say it's less the company than the personnel. Although, good luck finding out who worked on something until after it's released, if then.
When the employees are doing bullshit that fucks over the company's reputation and damages profits and pushes away consumers THE BUSINESS IS SUPPOSED TO TELL THEM TO TONE IT DOWN, OR TO CLEAN THEIR DESKS AND FUCK OFF.

It's an established pattern with both Sony and Funimation.
Yeah, there's a group of VAs (who double as script writers and voice directers and what not) there who are complete shits, and management (quite stupidly, on their part) won't discipline them appropriately. That's not actually synonymous with doing that being company policy. I know that probably sounds like splitting hairs, but I prefer to assess blame in both degree and kind rather than treating everything as an indifferent mass. I'm talking about the injecting politics issue, mind you. On the censorship bit... Are you talking about actually censoring works, or simply about them not wanting anything to do with erotica?

Oh, no question. It's just that people tend to talk about it as if it were some sort of company mandate, rather than them being entirely too lenient with their personnel.
Well, businesses have not put down their employee activism, far from that, they are actively enabling it and joining in on virtue signalling.
A lot of these companies also do woke shit and have fallen for teh ESG crap.

Sometimes I am happy to read the show but (for example) when I'm on my lunch break or relaxing after work I don't want to read while I watch and prefer dubs. Dubs are also more accessible, it's how I've gotten my wife to watch some shows (such as SpyXFamily).

Honestly, there are three kinds of things that fuck up dubs:
  • Bad casting and/or directing
  • Writers being too full of themselves and fucking up certain lines
  • The Japanese license-holders imposing shit on the dub studio
The last one absolutely fucks over a dub forever - see the Netflix Evangelion and final Funimation Evangelion 3.33 dub.

The second one can be fixed in time for the Blu-Ray release.

The first one is highly variable, but is generally a result of anime dubbing (like most of the anime production chain) not having much money to work with.

That said, good dubs definitely make shows better, and shows that not set in Japan and/or have fuck tons of dialogue heavy scenes definitely benefit from having them.

I keep hearing about the whole kick Vic campaign which I assume was some feminazi/SJW collusion bullshit operation.
FUNimation voice actors were envious of Vic's success and tried to throw him under the bus. Monica Rial confessed during the deposition that she was upset that she was voicing the main character of a show, but it was Vic's name who was listed on the box, not hers. Vic was also a Christian, which makes him scum of the earth in the eyes of the American entertainment industry. It's no surprise that once the snakes were done with Vic they immediately went after David Trosko.

How many of you are actually watching dubs, by the way?
It depends. For new stuff I rely on word of mouth to try out the English dub. I think English anime dubs peaked during the mid 2000s to early 2010s. The Log Horizon dub is half of what made the show great.

I think the quality began to noticeably drop when simuldubbing became a thing. Japanese voice actors record their lines during a show's production and know where everything is leading to and can act accordingly. Similarly, English dub voice actors used to record their lines after a show was finished. But once simuldubbing became a thing, you started having English voice actors coming in and voicing characters without knowing what was going to happen the next week, so you get strange things where a voice actor doesn't realize that his character is actually a traitor and voices him as a straight good guy, so there is no inflection in his voice to foreshadow what will happen. Also, the Japanese had plenty of time to perfect their takes before their show debuted, but with an English simuldub you have the studio rushing out the dub. You also have lots of recasting going on so character voices are changing every week and it can be hard to know which character is supposed to be speaking at times.

If the people who are running the company are doing it, or are at the very least not disciplining the people who have been doing it, then it is company policy.

Both. Sony started getting in the news for censorship due to how they have handled publishing of games, which is to say they either refuse to publish them, or censor the hell out of them in order to "localize" it, or if this is too much for them to bother with, they simply refuse to publish it. This is anything they might consider anything remotely "erotic" whether it actually is or not. Hell, they apparently consider a plunging neckline to be "erotic. And with what they've done to RightStuf, I'm already pretty mad at them. I wouldn't be surprised if some time down the line this new website is shut down, and anyone who wants to purchase the type of products that have been shuffled onto it will have to look at directly importing it, which can be a very difficult or impossible. The upshot is that Sony and the leftists running it are setting themselves up to be gatekeepers.

I disagree; but then I can read subtitles so fast, it feels like I can understand Japanese. Plus, I like listening to people speak it; it's a beautiful language.

Silent movies feel kinda empty without the sound, even if you have subtitles.
And the intonation and the very voices themselves sound like they fit better than any dub.
Oh, and btw, I actually learned English from watching fucking cartoon network once upon a time!

As to Japanese, well, you won't be thinking it is beautiful if you try to learn it IMHO. :)
