FC3 was the best for me, because Jason Brody was a character himself and you could track his growth (and/or devolution), alongside his relationships with his NPC allies. The Far Cry games where you can make your own character have to be dropping you in as a blank avatar, and so they lose out on that characterization.

And that was crucial, to me at least. Vaas wasn't just an entertainingly crazy antagonist; he was a legitimate foil for the PC because you were also going violently crazy. Conversely, in FC4, Pagan Min had a relationship with you, and it was well-done, but Ajay was so bland himself and did so little growth as a character that there was nothing to carry the arc.

I have low expectations for this game, because if you can't make the protagonist a character because you need them to be an empty customizable vessel, you can't tell their story.
You can tell a story just fine. It just feels more personal to you, then it does say you playing as another character. You feel the growth yourself

Can you give some examples of some growth you felt during Far Cry 5? Again, I felt that playing a blank, voiceless avatar meant that I lost a lot, both in my ability to have the protagonist react organically to the craziness and to measure the arc, and since I the player was not really invested in the FC NPCs, the various Twists did not hit me. Were there beats there you felt worked particularly well for you personally with the blank-slate avatar?

When you are unable to save the Marshal and the guy whose son was taken by the cult, watching the Marshal shoot him. Same with ELi. At least to me, it made me want to kill the Family more with every life they took.

Fair. Again, I felt that I lost a channel that would have made me personally care about the NPCs more, but if it worked for you, it worked for you.

And to move things away from characterization options and into a general FC5 discussion, how'd you feel about the ending? Again, I felt pretty disconnected on my playthrough, but I imagine that someone who was invested in uprooting the Seeds root and branch would have some feelings about what happened, and how it was presented.

I wish the ending would have been different, and no nukes of course, but in New Dawn I made him live with the horrible juice he made so there is that. I got my revenge in the next game and I was happy

Since I'm a girl, I personally prefer games with a female or "pick your own" protag. It's not a huge deal, but it's a point in the game's favor.

I only really care if they do a "Female empowerment!" And makes themselves stronger then men just to prove a point

Might not be a female protagonist, or only female protagonist. 5 let you pick, for example.

Speaking of 5, it's good they're not going with the Nuke ending being canon, which is a good start, but I'd like some more evidence they're shifting away from the recent tone of making the games have the choice of various bleak endings and maybe go back to, like, just a bittersweet ending? 3 was great like that.

That aside, looks fun, and the new gadgets and the more bizzare, homemade weapons are a fun twist. I'm reasonably certainly that missile mortar thing would never ever work in reality but it sure looks fun to use here.

Usually wasn't big into increasingly complicated crafting games but for a missile mortar backpack I'm willing to make a sacrifice. I bypassed Far Cry 5 because having a game set in Montana seemed extremely dumb and I'm not regretting the decision particularly. I was a big fan of Far Cry 3 & 4 despite their plot shortcomings IMHO and the like and it seems like Far Cry 6 is sort of returning to formula thankfully with a fancy new tropical setting. Only now we get even more locales, like a proper Capitol City which is awesome and you can commandeer tanks which sounds glorious. I mean I don't think anything will surpass riding a War Elephant into battle in Far Cry 4 but I'm willing to be persuaded to as such.

Far Cry 6 lets you play as either a male or female. This has been known for quite a long time now...

In any case, I'm not buying it since its not releasing on Steam. I may play it when I get a months worth of UPlay Plus to play all the Ubisoft games that haven't actually been released yet.
