Yep. The way Catholics have walked the line with 'honoring' vs 'idolizing' saints is one of my beefs with them.

Santeros skip the like gleefully and go full into sacrificing chickens to commune with the saints.

And a group of Miami Santeros seeking to avoid paying dumping fines in the 1990s are why animal based blood rites are legal in the US

And why those Satanists tried to argue abortion was a sacrament. Legal precedent sucks sometimes.

Out of curiosity, what religion are you? I am assuming a branch of Christianity based on what you’ve said.
I grew up as part of a Missionary Family in a Muslim country in the Middle East, part of an independent church not associated with any particular denomination.

For theological similarity to well-known denominations, Baptist would be the closest, but the only church I've ever been a member of is the Evangelical Free Church, which most people haven't even heard of.

And that is problem with you.Luder after farmer war decided smartly that only Kings could create protestant sects,so we have one per country.
But USA allowed to do that for everyone, hence 10.000+ sects we have now.

Of course, now when heretics take Church from within, you could all laugh like hyenas.I would do that,if i were in your shoes.

In Boston I once attended an Italian Catholic holiday. And saw a shrine for a Saint bedecked in offerings and money.

It looked almost exactly like a celebration a Hindu friend once took to me see.
Were you in the north end of Boston around late august? Cause that is the feast of St Anthony. That is an over commercialized festival of what was once a modest cultural fair for Italian American immigrants to hold on to their old culture in a new land where a lot of people did not like them. Now it's a gaudy spectical to separate money from tourists or idiot locals.

A small but well-organised group will always tear a larger but disorganised group apart. The Marxist-Leninists may be far less numerous than the Evangelicals and other Protestant denominations, but the latter are a diverse rabble that can't put up a fight.

The Catholic Church could put up a better one, but their moral authority has been in pieces for centuries now.

Organization has little to do with it. In fact, the left has been punching above it's weight class because it wasn't actually organized. There was no central control for the most successful operation of the left. All they did was get hired as professors, teach communism, and only hire grad students/professors that were left leaning. No central control or organization needed. Moreover, there's no way to target them en masse: there's no central organization you can hit other then the entire university system.

It's honestly very similar to a cellular automata in that simple local behavior with no central organization can still produce global effects.

This is why meme magic works by the way: it's the right creating culture and taking ownership of it for an explicitly right wing view point.

A small but committed group will beat out a large but uncommitted group any day. That should actually be the key message.
