This is one of those things where I truely disagree with you.

Every society every culture every country has a fuck it point. A point where you have so pissed off the relevant people that this kind of moral grandstanding no longer works. Historically speaking fucking over your own military in favor of hoodlums typrically ends with said military killing the civilian leadership and taking power.
We're still not at that point yet; though I'd argue we're getting close.

Cities held by infantry can be wiped off the map by strikes over a hundred kilometers away.
Now it isn't very pretty to do so, so most people don't do it nowadays. But if you want a square on the map grid gone, you can make it disappear.
Can you show me a war that was won without using infantry to take and hold ground?

The separation of Kosovo from Yugo and the dissolution of Yugo.
Buy then again, US troops wee not and it was Ksovoian
Both are false. Yuvo died because all 3+ sides sent foot sluggers to kill their enemies and take ground.

Separatists in Kosovo started it, Serbian forces responded HEAVILY. It was NATO bombing that froze the ground action and kept Sebian forces from rolling heavily into Kosovo. THEN it was NATO ground troops which came in to 'pacify' the region.

I was being sarcastic.

Whether military training should leave soldiers capable of fighting off large numbers of untrained civilian assailants or indeed if such training is possible isn't the question at hand, rather, that the soldiers understandably feared the consequences of even attempting to fight back.

Weren't assailants also charged with assault with a deadly weapon? This seems to me to indicate they had more than here hands and fists in the fight.

TL;DW - Retailer fires employees for calling police on shoplifters.

You can get into actual trouble if you call the police on black criminals, the various 'Karen' incidents lately (of which most were the result of black crime taking place) proves this.
Therefore, companies don't really like when company staff get in the way of such people, what's better, a few hundred dollars worth of stock loss (potentially recoverable with insurance) or a couple million dollar 'ghetto lottery' lawsuit?

If the thieves were a couple of White hicks, they would've called the police and everything would've been hunky dory.

Why bother maintaining equipment like you're paid to right? This does help explain some of the Ukrainian complaints about how much of the NATO equipment sent over needing so much work to make ready. Also interesting to see the USA suffering from the same dry rot on the tires that Russia suffered from. With 6/6 fieldguns and 25/29 vehicles unready, I wonder what a deeper look would reveal.

Equipment for Ukraine drawn from Kuwait wasn’t combat-ready, IG says

I mean, it happens a lot because of how lazy we can be as soldiers.
Blame SGMs who don't let you leave thr MoPo when your 5988s have the same shit that isn't getting fixed because it isn't important so we stop trying until it eventually gets fixed.
That contracting company fucked up, cause even when soldiers do it we eventually get it mainted as shown by my time in Korea

Nah it was contracted out, then the company hired by the US Gov didn't maintain to standard and insisted that they didn't need to bother.
