A lot of the automatic toilets in public restrooms don't have handles anymore. Manually flushing one involves finding and pushing a button or intentionally activating the sensor.

He's kinda lowballing what tech is in a smart toilet. They also have cameras to detect which direction you're facing in order to decide whether to raise one seat or both, detect where your butt is (and when it's done its business) in order to aim a bidet water stream at it, have smart lighting so you can see the bowl without having to turn on the light switch, etc. Some detect when you're approaching and pre-mist the seat and bowl to make it easier to clean and engage a seat warmer so it won't be as cold when you sit on it.

I was describing the kind of automatically flushing toilet you might find at a gas station in either the middle of the 'hood or bumfuck nowhere which may or may not have been cleaned sometime within the past year.

Yeah, I get that, Smart Toilets are a fair distance further along than just self-flushing though. And the ones they're coming out with now really do have wifi to collect data on the user.
Yeah, this has always been one of my fears about "smart" appliances, or even the "smart" features of a video game console or your operating system (e.g. Cortana).
The "smart toilet" checking for diseases in your urine and feces, though? If you're worried about something like I am, e.g. kidney disease/failure, cancers of certain types, blood in urine, this could be pretty useful if it sends out an alarm.

Unless it was something ridiculous like a naked kid streaking in the background of a photo or something innocuous like pictures of little kids playing sports where one side includes one or more girls who aren't wearing shirts that cop really shouldn't be a cop anymore.
That she was convicted says she got caught with something which wasn't innocent. That the source was the Daily Fail (a tabloid) adds some question marks to the conclusion.

So it can refuse to flush if subscription fees aren't paid and be remotely self-destructed when the plumbing company wants to sell you a new model.

Yup! I still use an S4 Mini, released back in like 2013? 14? Even though I refitted the operating system with Lineage OS. I'm gonna have to replace it soon though, as the hardware itself is showing its age now. XD
