I think he means that Chinese influence has pretty much seeped through into a lot of Taiwanese businesses and government ["one way or another"] aspects, which is kinda true.

You have sympathetic politicians out there which genuinely want to unite with China or are basically CCP plants/assets, businesses willing to smuggle/sell under the table to China, and China itself has a lot of soft influence in Taiwanese affairs despite officially being as antithetical as North Korea is to South Korea.

Granted the only way they'd ever unite is through either military force [like China invading/annexing the "rogue province"] or when the CCP finally collapses [and even then China may balkanize as seen in the past again, so even then a "united China" probably wouldn't happen but a "Taiwan and several chunks of what used to be China" thing could happen"].

But yeah, China has influence in Taiwan; a lot of influence.

So, a bit of a summary:

Taiwan was seized from China by UK back in the day.
Taiwan started protesting against UK demanding independence.
UK went "fuck you, here china, you have them back".
Taiwan is not happy about being given to china, they wanted independence not a much more brutal overlord. Taiwan resisted China for years and there was saber rattling and political Maneuvering.

China was building up militarily and had many plans to try military conquest. But they all went up in smoke due to catching a bunch of internal corruption that left them far weaker than they expected. Such as the scandal where 70% of their missiles have been fuelled with water instead of fuel (which ruined the whole thing), and other scams going on. Executed a bunch of generals.

China was having much better results doing political subversion instead.
See polls showed 95% of Taiwanese were against being absorbed by China and had massive protests against that for well over a decade. (it actually started as merely 80% against but as the protests played out it rose all the way up to 95%)

China did repeated back and forth, with every round arresting and disappearing leaders and organizers.

China basically has some appointees in high offices in Taiwan, but they were checked for years by the elected officials. They would do back and forth where they would heavily bribe high ranking politicians to make ridiculous unvoted on laws (somewhat similar to executive orders, but not exactly. Rather, they are delcaring what their congress voted on, but lying about what it voted on).
So thay would make ridiculous laws threatening their independence and there would be massive protests, they would arrest leaders and then seemingly back down. But each time people bled energy and leadership. Anti china polls rose higher, but actual protesters in the street were getting smaller.

Around 2022 IIRC China managed to get Taiwan politicians who are in their pocket to declare a law (without actually voting on it) that it is treason to even suggest independence from China. Rounding up every elected official and seating member of their congress who is a member of the freedom from china political party and throwing them in prison, then moving them from taiwan prison to china prison where they disappeared.

And that was that. They are all in prison in china now or dead.

Xi actually flew over to Taiwan and gave a victory speech there.

US MSM completely ignored the whole thing.
Biden administration basically gave Taiwan to china on a silver platter.
And now we are kinda fucked. Because our CPUs are made in Taiwan, now a subordinate of china

So... yea, china already won and is now slow cooking Taiwan

To be fair the UK terms of the handover were a poison chalice. All throughout the time when the British had it they ran it like a colony with no voting for the locals then then when they have to give it up they try to make the Chinese accept that last minute agreement. Obviously the Chinks aren’t gonna play fair if the limeys aren’t. I mean the original lease with the Qing said nothing about democracy so trying to add that in when it’s time to give it back to China is a bigger breach.

No if the Brits wanted to do something they should have just handed Hong Kong over to the republic of China instead for a laugh.

Just because the Qing died does not mean China did. Also the Chinese might have just decided to say fuck it and invade. Nationalists would be willing to cause nuclear war to undo a bad thing done to their nation. At least by giving it to Taiwan there would be a way to save face.
