That's certainly true for a lot of it in the leadership but for the rank and file it's more that the right has principles and the left only has causes.

Someone from the right/left is caught doing something morally terrible.

The Right wants them punished because of justice and it's morally correct.

The left defends them because they can still support the cause and will dump them the instant they become more of a liability then a benefit. Justice and morality don't matter at all. Just what they can do for the cause. The ends justify the means. They want a socialist utopia, everything is ok in pursuit of it.

The right turns on its own even when it is NOT morally terrible. Even if it was merely slighting the left / triggering some journalists.

Also all they are doing is teaching the left that there will never ever be any consequences, because they will never reply in kind. Yes having moral principals is all well and good.

But when the opponent keeps on hitting below the belt you need to give a few back before coming together and agreeing to no more hits below the belt

More importantly, once people do cross that line, there is no turning back at that point; the line ceases to exist. Even if they succeeded in stamping out all opposition (which is going to require a lot more than just violating people's rights to accomplish; think something along the lines of what they did in Nazi Germany, or Communist Russia, to suppress dissent, and the mountains of corpses that resulted), that's not going to stop the violence; it's just going to intensify as they start turning on each other in the pursuit of ultimate power.

There are left wingers that aren't liberty haters. Basically the liberals/leftists that never went crazy. Brand is, one, Glenn Greenwald and Jimmy Dore are two others. Yes, I disagree with them on a lot, but they aren't bad actors or scumbags.
