Dude I don’t own my name people make names mugs all the time I don’t see any of that money but this isn’t even about that you don’t have any ownership of your culture no one does or at least no one should taking your thought pattern to the extreme political cartoons would have to go people wearing American flag shirts gone the symbols that a people make for themselves aren’t own by anyone or at least shouldn’t be owned by anyone. Really Mickey Mouse should be public domain in my opinion. What about people who are made into memes and the people who make money off of that. To me that’s fine

What are you arguing for you can’t say you own your culture that’s crazy. Cultural symbols and images are and should be open for everyone to use and reshape as they please to do otherwise is to create some weird abomination.

In any case it's more of an example to show that just yelling "free speech" for everything doesn't actually work, because as much of a free speech advocate as I am, I still recognize limits to it. I can also recognize that the subject under discussion does not represent a free speech argument, because this is not a case of private individuals being assholes, this is more along the lines of someone's name and image being used commercially without permission and acting entitled to do so. I brought up the example of Leonard Nimoy suing over the use of Spock's image specifically for that reason. This is also ignoring all the stupid arguments used to defend this bullshit, such as the "we're honoring them" defense.

Actually no; intellectual property rights are a limited (theoretically; in practice, corporate lobbying has made it effectively unlimited) monopoly granted to you, ostensibly to motivate you in creating new things that take a great deal of effort to create, but little effort to copy.
I suspect this is another case where we're going to have to agree to disagree; what with you being a libertarian, and me being someone who believes intellectual property rights should be abolished.

That's interesting, they are not making it mandatory, they are asking private sector to make it mandatory on their own volition. When you take kung-flu shot, you sign statement that you are doing it at your own responsibility, but if it is mandatory, then legal responsibility for any troubles are on the organisation that made it mandatory.

Also, there are things that stupid sports fans do, like draw cartoons of us sodomizing animals or getting sodomized by animals, or depicting us getting killed by their mascot. I have a picture somewhere of some fan dressed up as their team's mascot holding up the decapitated head of a Native impaled on a big Bowie knife. But according to you, Natives should just be cool with that.
