Guy is probably about 150 pounds

and yet he doesn't give a fuck. why should anyone give a fuck what they weigh so long as they are at a reasonably trim and healthy weight for their frame. this whole "bulking up" thing is a psy op that creates insecurity in men and then preys on it. and if you or anyone thinks their "bulk" makes them "more intimidating to other males" or "more sought after by girls", you are very wrong on that. in my experience girls like men with an athletic frame and trim, functional athletic muscle kept to a minimum. and low body fat but not "ripped/dehydrated" low body fat. really the frame - bone structure, height, clavicles, face, attachments/insertion points, etc. - are really all that matters. a man that has those things will have natural confidence which is the icing on the cake

and that's just in modern times. go back a few hundred years and all that mattered was being able to work - be it in the fields or the mills or the shipyards or the ranch or the frontier, whatever it may be - and to be able to defend yourself and your family with firearms. if anything being a large framed man just meant your body needed more calories to be healthy and, in times of famine, you would struggle to even survive. there is a reason most men are relatively small framed: because it was sexually selected for. let that sink in

Most men whoa re serious weight lifters are aware that women dont like ripped bodybuilder types. But the average man would prefer to be intimidating over being beautiful.

back in ye olde times before the agricultural revolution, male frames were actually heavier and bigger.

Before agriculture? Yes. But we also know very little of that time....

no man of reasonable size with an athletic frame is "intimidated" by bodybuilders. the only ones doing any "coping" are said bodybuilders. it's even funnier when some of these pumped up gym guys try to strut and wide walk and pump themselves up full of confidence, when nobody gives a fuck or is in any way, shape or form intimidated by them. so if that is why any of you guys are lifting weights, it's a pretty poor reason. inbe4somebody calls me a twink

but yes, before the agricultural revolution humans were all things considered larger. a mostly meat diet and rugged hunting lifestyle made that possible. but they by no means looked like "bodybuilders"; they had bigger bones, but were not carrying any excessive muscle

EDIT: oh yeah I just remembered Carrot of Truth also mentioned he's trained some mma over the years. combine that with bodybuilding and by no means, EVER, mess with that man. bonus points if he posts of Sherdog

I'm not the Carrot guy, but i'm gonna chime in.

Affliction/Tapout shirts, when they were popular, were laughed at by all us guys who actually trained.

I've done some MMA and a lot of BJJ myself. And some wrestling. Why? It's fun. I enjoy it. And 99% of those guys I trained with were just regular people, doing something they enjoy. Quite a lot of nerds, actually. Especially in bjj.

I lift a lot these days. Why? I enjoy it. It feels good. It helps my mental health, and it just simply feels good to pick up heavy shit, and to like what I see in the mirror. It's helped me to be more confident, and the mental changes helped me get over addiction and excel in my career.

You don't like to do all that? That's fine. I do. Some of us like pushing ourselves really hard and challenging ourselves. I love getting bigger and stronger, because it FEELS good.

So how about everybody take a step back, and appreciate the fact that we each have different goals and priorities, and that's FINE.

Do what you enjoy.
Simple as.

Agree with both of you. the problem with "gym bro" types is that even if 80% of them are cool guys, any interactions with that other 20% can taint your view on the entire culture. because we all know there are some truly insufferable and just flat out obnoxious "gym bro" types. although the same can be said with mma types: 80% are cool guys; but that other 20% are insufferable obnoxious assholes. alot of different sub-cultures are like that. basketball being one of them where even streetballers or guys that played in highschool and D3 at best have egos through the fucking stratosphere and in some cases are ready to fight over the littlest things.

dueling being a legal and socially acceptable thing would put an end to that obnoxious behavior bullshit really quick

Damn Gracies get way too much credit, I will grant that they popularized Jiu-Jitsu but their damn arrogance in acting like they created something new and tacking on the Brazillian part has always annoyed me.
Not quite.

What the Gracies did, AIUI, was overemphasize the so-called "ground" part of jujutsu(jiu-jitsu is a Brazilian mispronunciation of the original Japanese word) - locks, immobilizations and so on - while de-emphasizing the kicks and punches. They did so because Carlos and Hélio Gracie were fucking midgets, and if they relied on reach during a fight they would be trashed every time.

So, Brazilian Jujutsu isn't something entirely new, but at the same time it's quite different in character from the original art.

That's Joe Lewis.

My twin sister's husband would look like that if he was about two inches shorter and hadn't stopped doing PT when he left the Army over 15 years ago. I'd look like that if was two inches taller, actually worked out, and weighed 40lbs more than I'm supposed to.

What point are you trying to make? for reference, this is Lionel Messi:

millions of men look just like that with that height, that build, ect. if you saw Messi at home depot and didn't know who he was, you would just think he does landscaping or something. and yet, he is one of the greatest athletes of our era. point being, you can't just judge an athlete with how they look on the surface alone.

I'm fucking hyped man! Decided to one rep my shoulder press today, and I finally hit 225! I've been stuck at 205 for the longest damned time, so I'm ecstatic to finally hit that goal!

Now if only my bench press was progressing that well...
2 plates for shoulder press is good and strong. Normies consider that really strong for bench press lol.

My lanky ass has been working at it for years with a 175 max.

I’d been plateaued for years as well. Don’t know why today was the day, but I’m damned happy it was. I was smiling like a loon when the weight went up. I think the lady next to me was concerned.

It helps that I’m still pretty heavy. Don’t know if that shoulder press will stick around once I really start shedding the pounds, but I hope it will.

Now I’m going to try to really focus in on my bench. I’m hoping to hit 405 before the end of this year.

Allen Iverson is about my age, my height, and my weight. He's in the NBA Hall of Fame. I've never been able to dunk a basketball. He's never been asked to do engineering work. What of it?
