Wasn't Rand Paul in that primary; he might have been able to do what Trump did.

Cruz and Rubio may have kept some Never-Trumpers on board, however...I'm not sure either of them would have flipped Michigan and Wisconsin. Paul might have been able to flip those, like Trump did, while onboarding significant Libertarian vote.

Because people here keep forgetting there is a thrid party out there that has electoral power, even if some of their policies make the Ferengi look like OSHA supervisors.
Rand Paul would have gotten fucked over just like his father did. He probably still would.

Thing is, even if he did go the kingmaker route, we've already seen thanks to the 2022 midterms that the controlled opposition GOP establishment would sabotage anyone he backs to ensure they lose; even though it meant their party lost power.
Here's the thing, when it comes to the President the Establishment is much less powerful than when it comes to any other position. The reason the establishment had power for things like Senate but especially House races is that those races require money and most House races especially don't have big enough names attached to draw outside attention. Thus paying works, paying for ads, and all the rest, the Establishment party apparatus is critical, as it's how one gets your name and message out.

But the Presidential seat? There's no need for the Establishment to help with that. The Presidential candidate, simply due to being the Presidential candidate, draws more than enough attention and money to pay for those things WITHOUT the party apparatus to aid them. Yes the party apparatus can still be useful in combing door to door and other such things, but the big power the Establishment has: the power of the purse, doesn't apply to the Presidential candidate.

And further, say what you will about the Republican Establishment and Party, unlike the Democrats they have set the rules of the Primary up such that the Elites have no power to actually sway things. There's none of the Super Delegates who's votes count for more than others, it's a straight up vote by the party members to select their candidate, and that hasn't changed since 2016 AFAIK. The Establishment may not be HAPPY with the results, as they clearly were not in 2016, but you know what, they still ACCEPTED them and haven't tried to change the rules. In other words, if Trump acted as Kingmaker, the BEST the Establishment could try to do is rally support behind a candidate they preferred. And you know what? They have EVERY RIGHT to do that just like Trump would have the right to rally people behind his preference. That's what the Primary is about, the different factions trying to sell their preferred candidate to the party at large, and even though they're often wrong or distasteful, the Establishment moderate types have as much right to champion their preferred candidate as any other person in the party.

Minor disagreement. They can sway and put their weight behind someone. they can't cheat unlike the dems. they are limited in their options though.

Fuck, I wrote my rep not to even consider coming one inch of this back when I saw HB269 proposed, and DeSantis has the gall to sign it outside of Florida? Fucking coward. Fastest way to lose my vote permanently is to fuck around with the 1st. Not even gonna consider him for 2028.

Can you bottom line HB269 and what's going on? Haven't had a chance to see the vid yet.

Public Nuisances; Prohibits person from distributing onto private property any material for purpose of intimidating or threatening owner, resident, or invitee; prohibits person from willfully & maliciously harassing, threatening, or intimidating another person based on person's wearing or displaying of any indicia relating to any religious or ethnic heritage; requires violations be reported as hate crimes; prohibits display or projection of images onto building, structure, or property without permission; prohibits person who willfully enters campus of state university or Florida College System institution for purpose of threatening or intimidating another person from remaining on such campus after being warned to depart.

Bolded the parts that Styx and I have the main problems with. Remember "It's okay to be white"? Remember when that phrase was considered harassment and intimidation by authorities and fuckers like the ADL? Well guess how HB269 is vague enough to fuck over, say, anyone over wearing a shirt on campus or posting posters on a power pole on some random street with that phrase. That's why I'm mega pissed at this.

... no, no it literally can't be used that way. Threatening and Intimidating are defined elsewhere in florida law and that would not be covered under it.

This is why I fucking hate people like Styx, they know nothing about how Laws work and then act like they do.

Perhaps but the few times Styx has been wrong and he realizes he'll issue a retraction or correction. He's generally honest like that.

Maybe. But it’s not as if the last few years haven’t shown us that the government or judges won’t twist laws to suit their own needs. 🙄

Oh, well how wonderful. I can just trust the fucking state government not to abuse this in the future. Not like they've never decided to pull bullshit like give out special priveleges or exceptions when it suits their purposes or desires.

Ok great, they don't pass this law and... you get prosecuted for harassment anyway sometime in the INFINITE FUTURE POSSIBILITIES.

Every single law ever created can be abused. Get used to it and grow the fuck up.

Yeah, Styx is...hardly worth listening to, he obviously doesn't bother to research much of what he talks about, and seems like a low energy Razorfist that isn't even Tim Pool levels of willing to do serious background research, instead of just looking at media soundbites.

....What!? Dude, Styx is probably one of the best at giving political analysis I've seen on youtube. And he's almost always right baring a few exceptions. However he DOES have a blind spot. That blindspot is censorship of any kind. Styx is full on Libertarian and doesn't like it coming from the right and damn sure not from the left. Regardless of intent. Its just how he rolls and I can respect him for it.

...I've seen better, and he has way more blindspots than just that.

Best political analysis I've seen is usually Dave Chappelle/Joe Rogan conversations.

They've done enough shrooms and weed they don't got any blindspots left.

Honestly man.

I don't think its possible to prevent the censorship of the left. The left has engaged in a decades long campain of censorship against their political enemies, and has enganged in harrassment campaigns, doxing, riots, assasinations and a whole host of crimes.

You cant engage in that kind of behavior long term with out it one day being done to you.
