so out of curiosity I looked up the difference between recession and depression.
A recession is a downtrend in the economy that can affect production and employment, and produce lower household income and spending. The effects of a depression are much more severe, characterized by widespread unemployment and major pauses in economic activity. Recessions can also be more localized, while depressions can have global reach.
according to merrium webster at least.
so if we think the economic ripples will be global and we will see a decline in GDP and a large spike in unemployment then this could be considered a depression. at the very least I think it will be one by fall with how fuel prices and food prices look to be going. where I am some farmers are already looking into crop insurance.
