A French Adventurer by the name of Jean Jacques Savin, age 75, perished during his attempt to row across the Atlantic in a specially designed canoe. His boat overturned somewhere near the Azores after encountering deep swells and rough weather. His journey was further impaired by his solar powered desalinazation device malfunctioning, compelling him to desalinate water using a manually powered device.

French adventurer, 75, dies attempting to row across the Atlantic solo

He was no stranger to maritime and other adventures, having crossed the Atlantic Ocean four times in a sail boat, once in a barrel made of plywood, climbing Mount Blanc and swimming across Arcachon Bay in France four times.

The current age record for a man crossing the Atlantic Ocean via rowing is held by a British man named Graham Walters who performed the feat in April of 2020 at the age of 72.

Charles Entenmann died today. Apparently those pastries and baked goods you found bearing that title was named after an actual person, Charles Entenmann who passed away at the age of 92. His father, an immigrant from Germany founded a bakery on Long Island and Charles and the surviving family helped expand those operations and formed it into what would eventually become a billion dollar company.

Apparently he also never went to school, served in the Korean War, supported and funded the local YMCA and various environmental concerns and after his retirement from the bakery business, founded a health care research company called Biolife. He's survived by a son, a daughter, and several grand and great-grand children.

If that's the same BioLife I've heard of, they are a giant blood/plasma donation company that hands out prepaid visa cards as thanks for donations.

I had no idea Entenmann was behind BioLife; his cakes and pastries have brought smiles to many faces around the globe, however helping create BioLife is a real feather in the cap of a long and good life.

RIP Mr. Entenmann, and may your pastries now bring smiles to the Heavenly Host as well.

Stephen Wilhite, a computer scientist responsible for the invention of the computer imagery known as the GIF (Graphic Interchange Format), passed away yesterday at the age of 74 from complications related to Covid. He invented this format in the 1980's while working with Compuserve, the oldest of the "Big Three" Information Services and Providers with the format released on June 15th, 1987. GIF's were actually one of the first two image formats that was commonplace upon early computers, the other being the hugely popular Black & White XBM format.

More importantly, Stephen Wilhite made it clear what he believed the correct pronunciation of the term Gif actually was, in response to an American Oxford Dictionary claim you could pronounce it Jif or Gif by stating: "The Oxford English Dictionary accepts both pronunciations. They are wrong. It is a soft 'G,' pronounced 'jif.' End of story."

Tributes abounded on social media as can be seen in the article above and also on Giphy.
