Boba Fett's actor has passed away.

I never new much about the man. Jeremy Bulloch had other roles, but by far his best-known role was playing the taciturn bounty hunter that we all know and love. Apparently, Bulloch loved the role as well. He used to wear the costume to fan conventions, only hanging up the helmet in 2018 when his health was failing.

He is survived by a wife, three sons, ten grandchildren, and legions of fans.

Dustin Diamond, famous for being 'Screech' from Saved By the Bell, died from Lung Cancer in a Florida hospital. This is despite him having never actually been a smoker in his entire life.

After the television show ended when he was only 23 years old, Dustin Diamond pursued a career in reality entertainment including beating up old people in Celebrity Boxing and appearances on Celebrity Fit Club, Celebrity Championship Wrestling, Celebrity Big Brother as well as a fifty two minute pornographic "sex tape" starring himself, two women and a stuntman/body double. In 2009, he released a book called Behind the Bell where he reported on the unsavory and nefarious work environment, the sexually charged and negative experiences with his co-stars, drug use, underaged sex and claims that he himself had sex with over two thousand women. The books credibility was disputed by almost everyone else on the show, as well as by Dustin Diamond himself a few years later.

He later seemed to reconcile with at least some of his castmates, including an interview with Mario Lopez and later explained his lack of success being the inability of escaping his 'Screech' fame and distinctive look the actor himself had.

Leon Spinks, the US Boxing 1976 Gold Medalist who defeated Muhammad Ali in his 8th professional boxing match in 1978, passed away at the age of 67 after suffering from prostrate cancer and related health issues later in his life.

While it happened later in Ali's career, it's important to note that Leon Spinks was the only man to defeat Muhammad Ali and take his title in a Heavyweight Boxing match. It was Ali's third loss in his entire career up to that point and his first loss in five years. He later lost a title fight against Larry Holmes in 1981 and then dropped down to cruiserweight where he finished his career winning two Cruiserweight titles and retiring in 1995 with a record of 26-17-3. He also fought Antonio Inoki in a boxing versus wrestling bout where he lost by submission.

Unlike many boxers (and athletes in general) Leon Spinks stated his post-boxing life was comfortable. Leon Spinks was married and had two kids, one (Leon Calvin) who was tragically shot to death to death in 1990 while his son was only two years old. His other son, Cory Spinks as well as his grandson Leon Spinks III became professional boxers as well, with the former becoming a Welterweight Title Holder, retiring with a record of 39-8.

Leon Spinks brother Michael, defeated Larry Holmes in 1985 and becoming a heavyweight champion, making the Spinks' the first brothers to both be heavyweight boxing champions and the only ones until the Klitschko brothers over a decade later replicated the feat.

He died with his wife by his side.

George P. Shultz passed away at the age of 100 on February 6th.

He was described as a Titan of American Academia, Business and Foreign Policy who served several US Presidents ranging from Nixon to George W. Bush.

He served as an officer in the US Marines during WW2 including service in the Battle of Peleliu. His career of national level public service started with the Nixon Administration in 1969 to 1970 as his Secretary of Labor and oversaw the resolution of several labor disputes and strikes that went on during that time. He then served as Secretary of Treasury in 1972-74 and helped partake in the discussions that removed many currencies, including the US one, from the gold standard and also helped end much of the Bretton Woods protocols established after WW2.

In 1982 he served as Ronald Reagan's Secretary of State for seven years, replacing Alexander Haig (whom you naturally remember from Call of Duty: Black Ops: Cold War) and oversaw a diplomatic crisis with the PRC over US Arms Sales to Taiwan and helped manage US Relations during the final stages of the Cold War with the Soviet Union where the US pursued both an aggressive strategy of condemning the Soviet Union and pursuing military technology like missile defense along with still encouraging dialogue with their Communist counterparts. He was also noted for his opposition to the Iran-Contra Deal.

In later life he became an Advisor for the GWB Administration and took on many popular so-called 'establishment' causes later in life including the support of a carbon neutral tax to combat global warming, ending of the 'Drug War,' Arctic Ocean security, nuclear arms control and the promotion of free trade internationally.

One of his final articles, written for the Washington Post and thus linked so below, was titled "The 10 Most Important Things I've Learned About Trust Over my 100 Years."

George P. Shultz said:
I’ve learned much over that time, but looking back, I’m struck that there is one lesson I learned early and then relearned over and over: Trust is the coin of the realm. When trust was in the room, whatever room that was — the family room, the schoolroom, the locker room, the office room, the government room or the military room — good things happened. When trust was not in the room, good things did not happen. Everything else is detail.

Solid analysis for Todays times, regardless if you agree with much of his politics or policies or not.

RIP. I didn't hear about him until I heard he was hospitalized and then posted a blurb about him in the Wuhan Pandemic Thread. So tragic to hear that he died soonafter though. There's a bit of irony I suppose but he lived the last year of his life before becoming a Centarian to the fullest.

Christopher Plummer, veteran actor known for the Sound of Music, playing General Chang in Star Trek VI, and appearing in Battle of Britain among many other roles died on February 5th.

We do have a thread on him, but I put it in the Media section.

I imagine there'll be a lot of crossposting like this but folks like these deserve all the remembrance and kudos for the lives they lived.

Vernon Jordan, Civil Rights Leader and notable friend and ally of Bill Clinton, has passed away at the age of 85.

He was born in Atlanta, Georgia in 1935 from humble beginnings in the Jim Crow era South and lived in public housing until the age of 13. Unable to secure an internship despite his educational excellence, he worked many odd jobs including as a Chauffeur for various wealthy politicians and bankers before pursuing a degree in Law and working with a series of Law Firms, and then Civil Rights organizations including the NAACP, the United Negro College Fund and the National Urban League. He became a friend of multiple US Democratic Presidents including Bill Clinton, who made him an unofficial aide to his Presidency.

In 1980, in an apparently racially motivated murder attempt, Vernon Jordan was shot with a hunting rifle while walking with his wife outside a hotel in Fort Wayne, Indiana. After five surgeries he managed to recover. Vernon Jordan gained the most national prominence when he helped secure an internship for Monica Lewinsky in the Clinton White House and became embroiled in that whole scandal. After the Clinton White House he joined the Boards of several Corporations and Companies as well as serving the campaign of John Kerry and in the Iraq War Study Group. He was also notably the only Black person to attend several Bilderberger Conferences.

He is survived by one child and nine grandchildren (seven from a second marriage).

Lou Ottens, the Dutch Engineer who is credited with inventing the audio cassette tape, has died at the age of 94.

Even though it might make a resurgence like records, it is kind of ironic that he sort of outlived his invention, which became popularized back in the 1960's.

After the cassette tape, he helped Philips develop their compact disc line. He outlived that too.

I missed the anniversary but, as they say, better late than never. On January 30th, 2014, Campbell Lane passed away. For those in animation, you might have heard his voice in various cartoons but one of his better-known jobs was narrating Gundam Wing. One of his last live-action appearances was being the First Hybrid from nBSG. Then there is one of his more memorable VA roles as not only the narrator of the Homeworld series (he literally narrated every game outside of the delayed 3 and Deserts of Kharak) but also the VA for the Bentusi.

His voice has an unmistakable gravitas to it. A gravitas that simply sucks you in.

This guy was one of my childhood VAs. That is outside of George Carlin aka the foul-mouthed comedian that narrated the first four seasons of Thomas and Friends and thus introduced me to the Railway Series.

French Snowboarder and 2002 and 2006 Olympian Julia Pomagalski perishes in an Avalanche while snowboarding in France. She was forty at the time. She won the Gold Medal in the 1999 World Championships in the snowboard cross. She was one of four people descending the slope when the avalanche, triggered for as of yet unknown reasons, injured one of them and completely buried two others, including Julia with neither of them surviving.
