Confederate Flags banned in the Military

Well, this ought to be interesting to see the response to.

I know a few people will be pissed about this, because they mostly see the flag as a symbol of southern pride, or like it because it pisses of a lot of the Left.

This really should have been done decades ago, when the Civil Rights Act was put in place.

It’s a flag and again like you said most people see it as southern pride and not a racist symbol. This is dumb I know Hispanic Asian and black Americans who own those flags gah this is so dumb

Also the government should definitely not have gone after a flag after the civil rights act that’s stupid and hugely authoritarian.

Symbols can change.

I don’t disagree but I would think the only flag a soldier should have are the national flag, and any flag related to their position in the military.

That flag means a lot of different things to different people. I understand why they did it. It shuts down an easy talking point for the Far Left. However, the Far Left will never be satisfied.

Please note that I say this as a Yankee with no love for the Confederacy.
The Military has good reason to since ya know, they were traitors..

Well no offense to them but our nation was sorta founded on treason, so it's hard and seem's hypocritical of them to critic others by saying treason is wrong in that sense.

Keep in mind that although the Confederacy did succeeded over slavery and while that was in no way a righteous cause by any means, they didn't do so out of sh*ts and giggles because 'f*ck the slaves' Tthey did so because the entire southern economy was circled around the institution despite the bad morality of it.

Slavery outlawed by the federal government like they feared would be pretty similar to the federal government stepping in today and outlawing a single part of the countries usage of gasoline or diesel engines in any capacity which would similarly screw them over economic wise, morality wise non-withstanding.

That being said the military has every right to demand this of their soldiers/employees as sure as they can demand that soldiers can't visit a particular places or talk to particular people while active members.

AN:
Please note the above isn't a defense that the confederacy did no wrong, (They did) rather a statement that the ACW was far from the battle between the forces of good and evil that people sometimes make it out to be today.

As someone raised in the south it is a thing most seem to overstate and like to use as a rally for the south will rise again.

So that does not help.

The Army wants to try to stay neutral as possible, with having reasons to ban Confederate flags being as there is no need for such a flag

Traitors to their country. Not to their state. There was no claritt regarding states or federal authority until the American Civil War answered that issue decisively.

And yeah it seems like a symbol of Southern Heritage more then advocacy of secession so it seems dumb to me on that level as well.

But Yeah I'm sure they'll do a purge of all Confederate symbols and names from the government and public sphere First. Then move in correcting all the bad actors regarding indigenous people and colonialism. Then they'll move down to all the slave owners in general and rinse and repeat.

The reason it'll take a long time is because each push will have the Conservatives compromise in only giving up some symbols. Then wait a few years and give up on those and compromise on even less controversial symbols and so on.

The real question that matters is does it cause disharmony in the ranks? I could see a confederate flag doing that. I don't see people caring if the name of their base is named Ft Hood.

Am keeping up. Opened several threads/posts on the topic already in

I was obviously referring to a government or congressional level in my post.

Nice attempt at a dunk though. I'm sure it works on Twitter. :p

Then ban all cultural, ethnic and advocacy symbols in the military for violating military harmony.
Those symbols are not of an enemy/traitors that 100,000's died to defeat.

And people wonder why parts of the center and Left see the Right as 'very welcoming' to white supremacists and such.

The more you all defend Confederate symbols, the more of the center you lose, remember that.
