The lengths that they and you go to be "anti-war" is every bit as ridiculous as these knee-jerk contrarians who defend Russia to the point that they end up shilling for them because they have it in their minds that Russia is the "anti-globo-homo." Why would anyone with more than two brain cells to rub together defend China.

Again: the 'cide' part of genocide means kill. Without mass killings, it's not a genocide. They ain't defending China, they are saying China's bad stuff is no-where near as bad as when China was, say, killing and literally eating travelling merchants, or mass killing babies as part of the 1 child policy.

What else can you expect from totalitarian narcissists who care only about results? Or at least, that care about what look like positive results.
If you look at Chinese history but especially their times of crisis, almost all Chinese leaders threw their own folk under the bus with little regard to the human and psychoemotional cost.

It is one of the many reasons why the KMT were doing so badly from a PR standpoint.

You look at Franco's and Pinochet or similarly autarchs you might note that they weren't that totalitarian in their application of power. They weren't pretending to be fucking nice to their people and even when they were wrong in some occasions they had to change due to circumstances.

As much as the CCP's reaction to the tragedy is infuriating, what aggravates me the most is the fact that it was theoretically avoidable. If they hadn't cut so many corners building that gymnasium, or if those irresponsible idiots hadn't decided that piling construction material on its roof was a good idea; those girls would still be alive. Unfortunately, with China's culture being so short-sighted, self-centered, and ignorant, these sorts of things are inevitable.
