Atheists and Evangelical Christians join forces against Intersectional Social Justice

The Westboro Baptists were only ever a fringe of a fringe, and they only got as much media attention as they did, because it was useful to people wanting to smear them.

A return of the 90's/2000's attitudes is most likely if Christianity retakes the cultural center. If it's successful enough, the 'Karens' will switch 'allegiance' again, and things will get ugly. That's just how social patterns work, especially in larger civilizations.

The big question is whether or not we'll have a more honest media at that point, where they'll depict the bad and the good of Christian institutions, or just continue the relentless smears.

having lived with the left wing Karen busy bodies for what 20 years now? The religious right ones are less horrible at least their restrained by an external rule set that puts some kind of limit on bad behavior.

Maybe this time the religious right can actually remember their mistake and not repeat it.

Do not let the Karen's have power or influence on the right if that times comes. You won't get a second Trump to pull your ass's out of the fire and bring the center on after the backlash from that next time.

Love and acceptance is a far better attractant than hellfire sermons, morality laws, and Westboro Baptist-type antics.

When was the Westboro Baptist Church (or their "type") mainstream Christian Right?

That's a battle that needs to be fought every generation, just like the battle for freedom.

Yes and oddly it's often against the Left.

1920's Red Scare, the post WW2 Red Scare, the 60's Counter Culture Movement, the Leftwing Terrorism of the 70's and what's happening now. It's amazing how one third of the country is seduced by Left Wing Authoritarianism over and over and over again.

BUT YOU CHRISTIANS!!! DONT FOOL US AGAIN!!! I remember how awful the 80s and 90s were. We barely survived Reagan and Clinton/Gingrich with its dropping crime rates, economic growth, expansion of wealth and ending of the Cold War.

Maybe it was Barry Goldwater who was really super duper scary...
