Isle of Wight: Police ask for military help over stowaways security incident on tanker

A Coastguard helicopter has been circling the Nave Andromeda, which had been due to dock in Southampton this morning.

Coast Guard vessels are already circling the tanker. Helicopters are in the air.

It's probably just disaffected crewmembers I bet who don't wanna deal with whatever is going on. BUT since this is Sunday, maybe it was opportunistic thieves looking for opportunistic plunder and violating the Holy Sabbath with their plundering laboUrs?

Lemme guess how the incident went...
Something happened, as in stowaways running out of their designated supplies, having a surprise problem, or the voyage taking longer than expected, the crew discovered them and went wtf, we have to notify the authorities, we can't just assist this attempt at illegal immigration as its illegal, the stowaways didn't take kindly to the news that they will be taken in by authorities, and before arriving to UK at that. Resolving that locally would probably involve members of the crew and/or stowaways getting severely hurt and resulting in nasty legal and PR problems for the line, so the crew was advised to just lock themselves in where they could (and going to that region the ship probably is prepared for that coz pirates) and wait for authorities to board and sort out the mess.

Why do I get the feeling there are going to worse incidents than this in the future?

Yep seven Nigerian migrants apparently threatened the 22 strong crew with violence and death threats, compelling the crew to contact the police, who in turn summoned the Special Boat Service who sent sixteen Special Forces personnel to resolve the situation with the presentation of overwhelming force!
 
How is it the crew couldn't subdue seven people? Are Europeans that weak? Unless the Nigerians had AK-47s, that's just so pathetic.

Natural grouping thing would seem the easy answer. The pirates/hijackers/whatever were a close group of at least semi-organized people that, from the sounds of it, were discovered by a small portion of the crew in a lookover of the ship wherever they were hiding and too obstinate for whatever portion of the crew that was to force them into a detention-room by themselves (and the rest of the crew who were on a rest shift or at their duties couldn't teleport wherever this was to be useful...And might not have been able to be useful depending on where the fight was taking place since only a few might've been able to confront the men at any one time--so the numbers are useless).

Pair that with the crew not knowing if there were more, if they had smuggled weapons somewhere, or anything else of the situation--pad up in the 'stronghold' and wait for the SAS to solve the problem with guns and training (especially since they were not far off from jolly ol' England) is an easy solution to go to. Nobody risks getting shot by a hidden pistol or stabbed by a makeshift knife that way.

What can I do in that regard? I'm not powerful. I have no way to exert any influence over these situations, whatsoever. Should I take up arms? What would I be taking up arms against? I have no support, so I'd get swatted like a gnat. What the fuck can I do except bitch about it online or cast my vote at the ballot box with care and consideration?
