A History Of The Sietch/SB PM Ban Compilation and Discussion thread.

Thank you

But I have a question I pressed the link on page one but it read I don't have permission for that thread

How does one access that?
Was it an NSFW page? For those, you need a minimum post number (I forget off the top of my head), then request access with your birthday.

It is the thread where people talk about SB and the other sites

Okay got it the post number wont take long probably

But to who should I request? Is there a specific person or thread?

So this has been a long time coming. I found this site while looking for more chapters for the most exhalent "Welcome to the Jungle" battletech story. For the life of me I could not understand why the mods on SpaceBattles were having trouble with the author. And over politics in a story no less, because the character became a noble of a planet. But I wanted more of the story and came here.

Over the years I've found that some of my favorite authors, when I go back to read their work or to look up some more of their stories, have been permanently banned. The most banns I find are in the politics section.

More recently, about four years ago, I got into watching more politics on TV. So I think you can guess where this is going.

I made the mistake of complaining about Pride Day on spacebattles concerning their changing color wheel of the Logo. I was honestly sick of pride month. The few LGBQ people I knew about were sick of it as well. They hated the parade and didn't want anything to do with it being commercilized like every other holiday. Plus I was learning about "tuck friendly" boys swimsuits for Target. And when I expressed my concerns and reasons to the mods about the changed logo they were disgusted with my attitude. Called me a trans-phoebe, which I had never been in my life, and a drunk. I don't drink, and told them so. I was more for veterans, supporting families, boys being boys and girls being girls.

So I got points, which were set to expire, and then out of the blue I was permanently banned. No appeal, no warning, nothing.

"SB is an LGBQ friendly site, and if you find this so offensive you are invited to go elsewhere. You are now banned."

So now I mostly hang out in Sufficient Velocity these days. However I have also become more political as I watch the news.

Recently, I was reading a good fic called "The Brave and the Bald" where the writer has it labeled with a Villain tag. With the clear idea from the beginning that, as a villain he's going to do villainous things. I had actually stopped and unwatched it because I wasn't really interested in all the evil things being written. So imagine my surprise when last week I got 25 points for Acceptable Content on SV. Due to the content of the story and the main character being an evil character doing evil things, the thread was permanently locked. I mean its even got the tag Villain! in it!

Just a warning, out of everything posted, apparently mentioning "WAR CRIMES" in a comment is enough to get points. After reading Acceptable Content in the Rules section, which don't use those words anywhere, I'm sure that using the words "WAR CRIMES" is what got me the points, and if they weren't in my post I wouldn't have gotten any.

The temporary suspension was lifted 24 hours later.

This is actually the second time I commented on a story and got points months afterwards. The story was fine and everyone was having a good time. Many were much more enthusiastic than me. The story is called "Two Eagles and a Rising Sun." And a whole bunch of us got points months after posting. The temporary bans were temporary, some people were asking why and getting points for asking why, and it got so bad that other mods had to be involved, the points were removed and nobody was banned, and the thread locked.

More recently I discovered the SV alternate history story "America First: What if the Trump/Vance Administration handled the Second World War?" which left me hopelessly confused. It seems to be an "I hate Trump" fic which would go with SV Don't Be Hateful rules.

Even more recently, I have discovered how Left-leaning SV is. There were several discussions about libertarianism, where the description was completely fantastical and had nothing to do with its description in the dictionary.

And finally I went looking for a discussion forum that had anything positive to say about Trump and I found your "Trump 2nd Term - Planning and Beyond" thread in the Politics and Current Affairs section.

And now I'm here.

Other than SB I haven't been banned anywhere. It's been a long ride.

Leftist ideology accepts no compromises or tolerances. Their way or the highway. Remember this, understand this, put this into practice.

If someone tolerates you, tolerate them back. If someone cannot tolerate you, do not tolerate them.

Amen that that!

Thanks for the welcome!
For the record, I'm perfectly fine if other people have different opinions. Both in their private lives and politics. So long as we can talk it's all good.

I'd make a longer post, but I made two rants about crap I hate and deleted them.

If it's any consolation, SB is in a purity spiral right now. The staff and users are turning on each other, with some long time staff even leaving because of how bad the new staff/radicalized older staff members have become.

Leftism: Not even once, folks.

This is the exact kind of shit that drove me away from the Left.

When it comes to fiction, I have always believed in free speech absolutism. Art is art. Let authors write what they're going to write, and that's end of it. This weird, dogmatic urge to police fiction (and the discussion thereof) has absolutely nothing to do with the Left I remember as a kid. The Left I remember was in favor of very transgressive, filthy, and bohemian fiction, not this weird, sanitized stuff they spew now.

This weird identitarian shit has been simmering in colleges in the US since the 70s and 80s, and only in the past 15 years did it really start taking off in mainstream discourse, with all this bullshit around microaggressions and trauma triggers and whatnot. I don't believe in any of that shit.

It's kinda sad because it curtails creative freedom: A talented author can write a character as being anyone and anything, even right down to being a racist, a homophobe, or even darker things. If you like or loathe the character, they've done their job to the readers.

But people on the Left? They presume the author are such things, even if the guy or girl is Black and gay. :ROFLMAO:

That's why I have respect for the authors like the writer of Youjo Senki -- His main character, Tanya, basically rips Communism to pieces to show all its flaws. The guy himself is (apparently) a Communist.

The author of Cyberpunk? He's been accused of everything and anything in the past, including being racist. The guy is Black, for fuck's sake.

An inverse example? Stephen King. The guy himself is a fucking Swiss cheesed brained, Leftist cunt. As a person, he's a twat. As a writer, even the controversial bits I dislike (like the orgy in IT?)? He's fucking amazing. He's even wrote entire books he can't remember writing because he was fucking coked out constantly at the time (I think it was Misery?).

A microcasm example is Spacebattles: If an author on there wrote a main character as being racist, they'd automatically presume the author is racist... Even if the guy is Black or Asian et cetera himself/herself. The thread would be locked or "monitored" quicker than the Sandwich Maker could make a cheese and rhye.

They want simple. They understand simple. Any complexity causes chaos with their worldviews.

I should stress that you can just as easily hate your own race as easily as a different colored racist can. Self-hating leftists are as zealous as the KKK, and last time I checked a lot of them are White.

I wrote an MLP fanfic where the ponies are IoM-level xenophobic jingos and nearly every moment is filled with violence and profanity. I intentionally leave it up in the air and for the reader to decide if this is right or wrong.

IRL? I’m pacifist, anti-war, and literally wouldn’t hurt a fly.

The author of the Drakaverse put it best:

“There is a technical term for someone who confuses the opinions of a character in a book with those of the author. That term is idiot.”

Cujo, actually.
