United States ðŸ‡ºðŸ‡¸ US House of Representatives Discussion Thread!

Friendly Reminder - Rule 2F Violation (Derailing)
Off-Topic: Is is true that McCarthy was ousted from the Speakership ? WTF is going on over there in the US House of Representatives ?

Doesn't that jackass Gaetz realize that he may have just handed the Dems the House in 2024 ?

McCarthy as I said in other threads made a deal.

In order to get the position of speaker he had to make concessions and then he broke his word. There are conquences for that, action reaction. Keep in mind the last time something like this happened was around a century ago and that effort failed. Think about that for a moment.

If McCarthy wanted to keep his position then he should have kept his word, but he lied and now he has lost his position. Yes the republicans might lose the house over this, so be it. The republicans leadership visibily knifed their own side in the back in 2022 now its time for them to reap the harvest they have sown.

Is it good is it bad I do not know but it was envitable.

Watching this is a real life political soap opera.

The list of GOP House Speakers who got run out:
Gingrich (1995-1999) Resigned
Hastert (1999-2007) Resigned from Congress altogether in disgrace
Boehner (2011-2015) Resigned
Ryan (2015-2019) Didn't seek reelection to Congress & left politics altogether
McCarthy (2023) Removed after barely 9 months in the Speakership

Moral of the story; don't make promises, then follow through on absolutely none of them.

The man made the mistake of thinking things were politics as usual, the problem was that the democrats have been acting increasingly unhinged since 2016 and have been doing things like using weaponized legalism, terrorism, and have in a few cases strait up murdered their political opasition. They have currently arrested the most likely person to run as president on pretty damned flimsy premisese.

Then the GOPs current establishment decided to visibly and openly stab their base in the back in 22 creating a mutalated victory in what should have been a clean sweep. The mood for compromise after dealing with all of this fuckery is decidedly over. The time for politics as usual are over.

Macarthy should have understood this while he was making those promises, as a politition he should have been able to read the fucking room. But he did not and he's now the first speaker to be successfully ousted like this in over a century. A lesson to the others.

Let's not forget about McCarthy pulled out of the Speakership race back in 2015. There's a reason why he um.... didn't have the votes.

Battle for the Speakership
So who's the most likely successor here?
US Rep. Kevin Hern (R-OK 01) has decided NOT to seek the Speakership, calling for the need of party unity inside the House Republican Conference.

US Rep.
Jim Jordan (R-OH 04) has the endorsement of former President Donald Trump.
Trump endorses Jim Jordan as next House speaker

US Rep. and House Majority Leader
Steve Scalise (R-LA 01) announced his bid for the Speakership last week.
