We saw some sword wielding defenders (with limited success) during the George Floyd Mostly Peaceful Protests. Hopefully the French can perform better.

As an American, I may have this on the brain too much, but looks to me like arms trafficking from neighbors who've had their fair share of post-WWII wars (read: Eastern Europe) may render gun control increasingly useless. Last time I checked, the PPS is a Soviet model favored by Warsaw Pact countries, so unless France has underground gunsmitheries churning out bootleg PPS copies that I don't know about (which may still be the case), well…

Many of those weapons likely arrived between 1954 to 1962 from the Warsaw Pact in Algeria. Then whoever kept them passed them down or sold them and they got smuggled to France.

Thanks for the tip-off, though. As I said, seems the arms-trafficking business via former Warsaw Pact states is thriving throughout Europe. Whatever else, gun control doesn't seem to be particularly effective at stopping that, especially when France has imported those who'd place their deranged interpretation of Sharia law over secular French law every day of the week. Real bind they've put themselves in, really.

Arms traffic is not thriving.
The reason for the weapons is , to put simply, culture. Algeria has a culture of struggle and an armed one at that is vivid to this day. If you are Algerian outside of Algeria, you pack.
It is like a Texas with an Islamic culture and social-nationalist government almost one-party system.

Well, whatever the case, I guess criminals aren't the only ones who don't give a shit about gun laws.
If anything, religious fanatics who'd gladly die for their faith (much less flip the bird to European gun prohibitions) sound even more dangerous, especially since they actively want to overturn French secular law in favor of even more repressive Sharia at all costs. At that point, I'm wondering when Macron will get either JFK'd or blown up in a surprise suicide bombing by some incensed Algerian migrant with nothing left to lose. Because if they had their way, that's probably what'd happen.

Your wish will not be granted unless the Parisian elites want to let it happen. JFK, who I have personal animosity towards, was likely allowed to die because he fundamentally said no to the elites as illustrated by nephew RFK Jr.
But in the unlikely chance it happens, I certainly would not shed a tear for the Nouvelle Petain.

Never said I wished it; just that I thought it was likely.
Even if it still happened, that might actually be worse for France than letting Macron remain in power unscathed. For one, not only would assassinating him make him a martyr, it'd also enable the French government to crack down even worse than it already has.

France alongside Britain is America's key ally in Europe. A nuclear armed ally whose military is actually set up to be capable of functioning without NATO. France saying "fuck yourself" would be a severe geopolitical blow.
America's inteligence community has been completely out of control for awhile now.
We most likely need something akin to another church committy to reign them in, forcibly.
Not forcibly if need be because we are clearly past that point they have gotten way to big for their britches, then again its the case for the entire western world that the manigerial class in general has gotten out of control expecially in the buracracy.

Irritating thing is, I do agree with that sentiment but the first step towards it is pouring money into re-arming and establishing military independence from America.
And none of them have the vision to do that.

They were like "No thank you" as a response to Macron. Not mention that the Brazilians who are historically and politically aware know that France has being trying various times to involve itself in Brazil such as this Republic of Independent Guiana - Wikipedia not to mention that his behaviour towards Bolsonaro only endeared him to part of the Brazilian population, who are in power now but they were Francophile ONLY in the instance of being against Bolsonaro and that's about it.

I might be partially wrong on my statement about gun smuggling, because I am pretty sure none of the guns could be traced back to a Cold War period or any former Warsaw Pact country :
@Zyobot and it seems at least these hooligans are very Russophile... and crudely bad at writing in French. (Because while French has many commonalities with Italian language, in French you do not write Russia like in Italian but Russie.)
NOTE : the video is from 2020, during an ethnic feud between Algerians and Chechens. But I guess you can see it as a prelude to what is happening now.
