What actually sparked the riots? The cause has been massively underreported in English language media IMHO.

From what little I heard some non-white 17yo was shot by police on a traffic stop. No real details about what actually happened or even what the protesters claim happened.

A 17 year old delivery driver of Arab ethnicity in a rental mercedes (not sure how legal that is to begin with, as in driving a car without supervision without real driving license that one can get only at 18, a rental at that) was apparently breaking some traffic rules, enough to gain the interest of 2 motorcycle cops. They stop him, and its apparently serious enough situation that one leans into the car through driver side window while the other openly points his pistol at him, they talk for a moment i think...
So what does the driver do? Follow instructions? Leave the car with hands up? Ask for a lawyer?
No, one moment he decides to floor it like it's GTA and gets shot for his effort, crashing the car and dying from the wound 10 minutes later.
Cops claim he was being a threat to them and/or public to justify the shooting. Personally i would agree. Such behavior indicates that the driver was doing something so illegal that an attempt to hide it was worth the risk of being shot and adding causing a police chase to charges, or he wasn't, in which case what he did was dangerously stupid.

Nahel, who was too young to possess a full driver's license in France and was driving unlawfully,[11][better source needed] was employed as a delivery driver.[2] Nahel was "known to the police, particularly for resisting arrest," and in fact had been charged with resisting the previous weekend[12] and five times since 2021. Wonder who the other 2 people are and what's their history with law enforcement.
Apparently 1 of them managed to flee the scene.
Note how 90% of news articles do not mention the rap sheet and picture the young drug dealer as a good boy with real potential who would never do anything wrong....

So, in one we have someone using either a very crappy or peculiar RPG or IED against a building (allegedly a police station) , in another it looks likely there is an individual with a belt-fed M249 saw or maybe a Belgian/French equivalent and then you have a rooftop-Korean-style sniper. ADDENDUM : You guys should know that some of those who commented the sniper tweet affirm that is :
