Sexy Starships

The X-Com Avenger

Wish there was more Avenger art or renders out there.

Legend of Galactic Heroes. A space opera anime that got just got rebooted. The new one has stayed close to the original plot with a few updates.
Though I do hate some of the redesigned ship elements.

I'll admit, she wasn't the most traditional beauty but...

She could turn a few heads.
I admit it does look quite nice in its own way.

She could turn a few heads.
She's smaller, but more solidly built; no spindly nacelles or elongated neck.

Also, seemingly packs a larger punch and can take more of a beating than most flagships or warships.

As for another kind of beauty:

The Errant Venture herself.

A bit of a gaudy show off, has a gambling habit, and goes where the money is, but still able to Base Delta Zero anyone who looks at her funny or tries to get too frisky with her.

Though a truly sexy Star Destroyer is one that sinks its bridge beneath the armor. Star Wars certainly has the tech for a virtual reality better than us and they can simply mount cameras and other viewing instruments and sensors to relay them information more accurately than by human visual feedback. This is basically a large scale version of what the tie-fighter cockpit is. The Empire could also mount some turbolasers to the bottom and side of its ship. This would allow it to take advantage for space's warfare's 3-dimensions.

Ah, bit then if a Captain goes rogue, you have to frag the whole ship, instead of just a bridge tower.

But its simply more practical to lower the bridge. To stop a rogue commander, there would likely be dozens of other officers and troops who would be more likely to be loyal to the Emperor. This was at least how Palpatine's structuring of the hierarchy worked since later into his reign he favored having his subordinates squabbling with each other rather than directing their discontent or ambition towards himself and his throne. Also fragging the bridge tower is not an effective way to quell a mutiny. Since that would likely destroy the ship itself as there aren't really any redundancy protocols. The Executor crashed into the death star when a TIE-fighter crashed into its bridge.

True, but Executor had issues with continued bombardment and attacks by fighters, as well as DS 2s gravity, to contend with.

In open space, if you frag the bridge tower, the ship will probably be effectively out of the fight, unless the crew is really skillful at handling things from secondary or tertiary control points.

Also, it's handy in case an ISD is captured and you want to take the ship back with minimal damage.

For an SD with a more protected bridge, you do have this, the Ascendancy Class:

The Chiss are far more practical than the Imperials, and less worried about treason or mutiny, when it comes to their ships.

A few notes on bridge towers and SW ships. At least as far as TOSE is concerned. Bluntly, they tried burying the bridge and using all holograms. Works great until you lose power and now can't see squat... sure Mk I eyeball is terrible as a sensor system, but it's better than *no* sensor system at all. In addition, the volume lost by burying the contents of the bridge tower into the hull is volume that can't be used for things like, oh, shield generators, point defense control systems, backup systems, additional reactor volume... and the bridge itself is only hit a vanishingly small percentage of the time to the point where ship losses from 'Bridge Tower destroyed' as primary cause work out to a rounding error in quarterly reports.

But that’s where backup power systems and redundancy protocols come in anyway. You could maybe have a crew observation deck but to leave your control apparatus so exposed like that would lead to disaster. Plus when you lose power, that means your shields are down too which means that the ship is likely toast.

In Star Wars large parts of the ship are manned (this is because it came out in 1979). But in terms of sci fi, this could perhaps be automated.

Minbari Sharlin-class War Cruiser.
Some of the Mon Calamari Cruisers from Star Wars are quite Aesthetically pleasing. Though They don't look as heavily armed as these ships.

I honestly feel like the ship looks unbalanced to me with those tiny nacelles. Never much cared for the folding wing gimmick either.
Its not perfect, nor does it really look like an effective warship, but it has its own beauty in a way. I guess its just my nostalgia about the old Star Trek shows I used to watch.

Almost all of the Minbari War Cruiser's forward-facing antennas and a few of the rear-facing ones have been shown firing beams at various points throughout B5, so they are indeed well-armed. They've never fired everything at once, though - given the computers available when the show was being made, the effects company would probably still be rendering out the CGI to this day if they ever tried it. :)
