No, that's why they aren't doing it with Rubles. They're using this special 'coin' to do it with.Does Russia have enough gold to cover the Rubles they have?
Doesn't matter, now that a lot of places are banning Russian gold imports.1st country that does it successfully wins the currency war.
The problem is that the ones who aren't comprise a very large amount of the rest of the world's mineral wealth, meaning that to "cascade" the sanctions per usual would mean gutting our own access to electronics. We can't actually get away with embargoing the entire continent of Africa, we need their stuff.Russia will not be able to rely on it's mineral wealth to dodge sanctions, and more and more countries are cutting off all business with Russia.
Between Russia itself, China, and significant chunks of Africa, there's a variety of base materials, mostly rare earth metals, losing nearly or actually a majority of their supply if going all-in. The energy supply complications could well be compounded by Lithium stockpiles to store "renewables" output, even if we can source the materials to build and replace "green energy" without them.@Morphic Tide
What do they gather that we can't get elsewhere?
In which case I'm OK with replacing Green Energy. It's a scam as of right now. So...this will potentially push us into more nuke and natural gas plants.
There are going to be regular rolling blackouts before politicians even start thinking about it and well, that is not an infrastructure you can build overnight. Also the shortage of lithium and rare earths will hit the electronics industry hard, hopefully my computer and phone will last a long time.So...this will potentially push us into more nuke and natural gas plants.
Honestly, I doubt they'd consider it even then. They're like compulsive gamblers; they'll keep doubling down long after they've already lost everything. There are going to be regular rolling blackouts before politicians even start thinking about it

I also consider "doubling down" to be the hallmark of our current generation. People are less and less likely to offer a polite apology and seek understanding or redress but instead will double down and go harder than before and justify themselves with some reasoning (no matter how flawed of hypocritical) and/or dismissal (eg Fuck those guys, what a bunch of idiots...) because of tribalism or an inflated sense of self importance. The Deep State isn't, mostly, the politicians. It's the mass of bureaucrats, and they're even more insulated from consequences.
So, yes, doubling down is very likely, I think.

Not that I can say I am immune but at least I try to catch myself in the act at times. It is pervasive and corrosive to people just getting along in society and I expect this is by design so all us plebs are constantly making each other miserable and divided, but now we are getting into conspiracy land...
I've got to admit, I can be a bit like that.
I try for honesty in all ways, but I'm only human.
