Because judges are the elected officials that nobody actually cares about. They just put their name up with a party and get in from people voting strait ticket.
One good way to change that would be to start prosecuting them for violating the rules.
In countries where they are appointed that would be a wonderful start as well, since judges should not be above the law.

I kinda stopped paying attention once I realized that everyone there was going to waste our time grandstanding; although from the summaries I've seen, that's pretty much all these hearings are, a giant waste of time. Copious amounts of hearsay, but no actual evidence.
Well, someone should watch at the very least the recordings of these hearings, so we actually know what has been said, claimed, and proven/disproven.
