Star Wars Star Wars Discussion Thread - LET THE PAST D-! Oh, wait, nevermind

Edit: Come to think of it, I think an older Sean Connery would have made a good Pellaeon.
But Connery would already make such a great Garm Bel Iblis! (Granted, I imagine the general with a thinner face. Imagine somewhere halway between Connery and Sam Elliott)

For Pellaeon, I've always thought Christopher Plummer or Derek Jacobi could both work. (And again, ideally imagine: somewhere in between the two. With a moustache, obviously. I can't abide a moustache-less Pellaeon!)

I think Gene Hackman would make a good Pellaeon.

RDJ should be either Talon Karrde or Booster Terrick.

bel Iblis...Jeff Bridges would be excellent as Garm.

Thrawn...I would say Cumberbatch, but he doesn't want to deal with the make-up necessary for it. Oddly, I think Tom Hiddleston would be a decent Thrawn, but he's a bit young.

Mara Jade...ScarJo, no question.

Would certainly work looks-wise, but I can't imagine Pelleaon without a British (or at least Atlantic) accent.

Karrde, in that case. He'd pull that off, I bet. He's still too young to be Booster. If they'd made Thrawn trilogy films back in the day, Kris Kristofferson would've been an ideal Booster.

Hiddleston is too young, yeah. But he's got the sharp features for it.

Mara Jade...ScarJo, no question.
Playing Black Widow really made her the go-to for the part in every fan casting, I think.

Any fan casing for Mara has pretty much been "all pretty redheads (natural or otherwise) the internet can think of".

A while back, I posted some photo morphs I mocked up of what the Solo kids would plausibly look like. I've been playing around with that for some other EU characters. For Mara, I just mixed up the typically mentioned contenders who could have played the part in the '90s (according to the interwebs). So basically, I used photos of Angie Everhart, Dina Meyer, Rene Russo and Gillian Anderson. And then merged that into one. I think the result is actually pretty plausible:

Of course, this is all just for fun, and no such person exists. So it's pointless for fan casting. But it's still pretty interesting that if you sort of mix the typically mentioned suggestions from the '90s together, you do get a fairly accurate picture. (At least, in my opinion.)

They're... um... Disney's trying to mine the Star Wars Holiday Special for ideas now. I can't help but think drawing on the single most hated, incoherent piece of the entire franchise isn't a good sign for where they're going.

Huh.

Guess I was looking at the version @Bear Ribs linked to, which would explain why it looked to have been published later on my end. Whoops!

In any case, if I want to immerse myself in the Star Wars universe, I can either write fanfic...or go play SWTOR.

Update 7.0 came out last month...and it was a mixed bag. The boss fight with Darth Malgus was buggy as hell, the new storyline on Manaan was too short, the upgraded GUI is ugly, combat styles overhyped in hindsight, and the ability changes (like the removal of utilities) simply stink.

But despite all that, I actually enjoyed it. The fight with Darth Malgus ends on a semi-cliffhanger, leaving the player wanting more, and the new storyline is meant to be released in stages anyway. The Manaan storyline - for the Empire at least - also has the dark satisfaction of being able to tell Kylo Ren Darth Norok (he even has a crossguard lightsaber) to his face that he's no Sith before you crush him like the bug that he is.

All in all, SWTOR, while not perfect, is still able to entertain while respecting the setting it's set in. Keep up the good work, Bioware.

EDIT: Not to mention, the newest cinematic that came with Update 7.0 is simply amazing. And not just in terms of graphics and choreography, but is able to present Jedi and Sith in real terms, i.e. it's not all black and white, the way Disney's been trying to shoehorn things for the past several years, but shades of grey against gray. It has to be seen to be believed.

Still a Repuvlic player myself you filthy Sith

Strangely enough, IIRC even when serving as one of the Emperor's Hands, Mara Jade considered Tarkin's death as well-deserved, and that Darth Sidious may have agreed with her up to a point.
