To Hell With Space Elves: Misanthropy in Science Fiction

I think I remember there was some early stage AI or whatever that ended up being disabled because it ended up being "racist".(correctly assuming trends in decisions based on race). One of the main companies had been working on it. I think it was Amazon or Google.
This one?
There is no way for an AI to develop spontaneously, it has to be made.
That assumes the objective of the AI developers is 'make an artificial human' rather than 'make something which will make us large amounts of money'.

A whole lot of people just make predictions on AI that downright mythologize some more extreme sci-fi imaginings of it, and then proceed to scaremonger or fanboy accordingly on the basis of such imagining.
a) There is no reason to program a superintelligent AI with full on unrestricted self-improvement with complex additions of questionable utility to its core role (research in AI, assistance in other research) such as emulation of human characteristics like emotions or psychological needs, especially not early models. After all, this thing is going to be engineered from scratch, with all such elements not only optional but needing to be created and tested, most likely starting with "minimal viable product" prototype, and projecting such characteristics on it regardless is part of the same psychological process that leads people to yell at their car. Even in further generations of such AIs, implementing human-like behavior and needs is about as stupid as programming your nuclear war management AI with such things. It doesn't need that, and if anything, such modules would interfere in doing its designated job.
b) AI will require hardware and as such, regardless of how impressive its self improvement potential, unless everything we know about physics is wrong (and if it is, good luck building an AI in the first place), it is going to be restricted by that. You can do only so many operations with hardware X in a given amount of time and it will take a certain amount of power, and as you add more hardware to parallelize processes eventually diminishing returns start to happen as data and results need to be moved around the network and that takes extra time. Its not going to get whole buildings worth of additional bleeding edge hardware without anyone asking what is it, what is it for, and if money can be made off it rather than spent on it.
c) That goes doubly for means of affecting the real world physically. Drones, factories, factory design, resources available to them. AI won't be able to materialize any of that out of thin air.

Things that are designed to make large amounts of money don't have the heuristics to do what you are afraid of. The option to make the decision does not exists. It is like beign afraid that your optic nerver or your spinal ganglia will attain sentience and rebel against you.

Behold, the most ludicrous example of this 'genre' yet, Charged Stars.

Kickstarter Page
Setting Google Docs
Quickstart Sourcebook

AKA, 'we saw this comic and decided to make an entire RPG playing it entirely straight.

No, seriously.

...We really need to subvert that setting immediately. And wait by the settings own conceit, how do we even know humans started it?

I encourage everybody to actually read the Kickstarter page linked above. It's unrepentant woke cringe, and only more so baffling because it's dead serious. Still, entertaining in a sad way.

I did... it is, to be honest it reads like you're expect a PARODY of what a Woke setting would be, this is, seriously, the opening paragraph of their background information:
The indomitable Human Empire vaulted itself majestically dick-first into space. On wings of angels, and the backs of warlike men and ambitious women, the unprecedented union of Earth’s disparate global powers set forth to the heavens for glory, profit, and conquest. Slowly at first, this powerful force explored the stars, taking planets like notches on their belts and voraciously consuming cosmic resources, subjugating sentient species as they found them, or removing them from the star-map entirely. Like a wildfire, humanity surged ever-onwards, tainting the stars unchecked… Until Humanity came upon a Murai Hiveworld. Cleansing the planet of its inhabitants in a corporate-backed military action dubbed “CloudFall,” Humanity declared war on the insectoid spacefarers, expecting to crush them like bugs.

"...vaulted itself majestically dick-first into space..."

I looked over their design doc linked above too... just... holy crap.

Lol, apparently the great crime of the Human Empire was ... terraforming alien planets. And of course the ideology of the Quisling-run human faction is ... communism. Of course.

As Earth was besieged, secret refugee flotillas brought many survivors to another part of the galaxy. There they established a free human civilisation, of whom you play its agents sent into occupied human space to make progress toward driving off the alien yoke over mankind.

Yes - how do we suppose the human empire was as uber-evil as the aliens claim it was? Their greatest atrocity. it seems, was terraforming lots of alien planets, and we already know the aliens have rewritten human history.

They claim that Humanity invaded the homeworld of the bugs first.

That would be a convenient claim, and for all we know humanity could have had a legitimate reason. Such as wanting to free enslaved bugs, or the bugs were doing evil shit...

Sounds familiar.

They are angry we took their living space, lol. They needed breathing room and we took it first.
