Important Civility Rules Enforcement

So the classic "shoot the current audience in the foot to try to pander to a potential new audience" strategy that's killed countless properties over the past few years? When did "Bird in the hand is worth two in the bush" stop becoming common sense?

I missed that. Damn. It really is time to abandon ship then. I mean, unfortunately I don't have anywere to go yet, but I guess its probably time to start looking.

Good god, people.

You are being asked to follow the very same rules that have been in existence since day one of this site. Not a single rule is new. Not a single rule is ambiguous.

99% of you have never even drifted CLOSE to violating the rules. Therefore, the staff being more proactive in enforcing the rules THAT HAVE ALWAYS EXISTED will not affect you in any way whatsoever.

In the past we have relied on reports to inform enforcement. In the future we will... rely on reports to inform enforcement.

In the past we have tried to understand the context of posts that are reported as well as the history of the posters before determining what, if any, action to take. In the future we will try to understand the context of posts that are reported as well as the history of the posters before determining what, if any, action to take.

Seriously, I know about tempests in a teacup, but this is a hurricane in a teaspoon.

sigh Jesus fucking Christ, what the hell's happened here?

Yes, I understand where the staff are coming from -- or rather their intentions (except for the 'appeal to SB and SV user-bases' aspect) behind it, especially @LordSunhawk's and @Spartan303's views. But, in reality? You're triggering everyone's danger alerts, for reasons already stated.

This may seem minor to you, but you're alienating users and have caused several to just up and walk away already.

For example, in a recent thread @CarlManvers2019 and a few others made jokes about British people and posh accents -- I, in turn, made a joke about "fucking inbred Yankees"... and it was a clear joke. We were kidding, and we all knew it. What, is that type of humour going to get us infracted now? What about genuinely calling people "fucking idiots" for when they're acting like, well, fucking idiots? Calling someone a Leftard because they're a Leftard (note: Leftard does not equate someone who's on the Left, just the nutters that appear to comprise of the Left now, like on SB)?

See, before there were no doubts. Now, posting that sort of thing? It has doubts whether you're going to get hit from it... all because of this post/topic.

Again, I understand the motivations why, but considering that most people here walked away from SB, SV, and our other sister sites for the very same reasons? Frankly, you screwed up big time, "hurricane in a teacup" or not.

Perhaps instead of dooming about asking people to not be dicks is the end of the forum at some unspecified point in the future, there may be wisdom in giving it a week or two and actually observing with your own eyes what actually happens?

Then make a choice about deleting yourselves.

I think that sums it up pretty well as seen here:

Ironically, we made that rule to protect people from being falsely accused of being Nazis by leftists, but as a matter of principle, we apply all rules equally to all people. We hit Sane for referring unironically to LI as a Nazi. That's why it warranted a thread ban.

It doesn't matter what you do Zoe, we are all alt-right nazis already in the eyes of the Eclesiarchy. You are trying to keep a false narrative of the Sietch as some sort of alt-righr heaven it has had from day one. No matter how much you try and keep things civil the fact this place was made after the PM scandal on SB already has it marked as a hererical creation. They will jus move from using the "uncivil" posts as proof to using perfectly civil posts who express the wrong opinions. They will find someone saying "Trans women are not genetically women" and say "Yikes thats a bad look like really sweaty what a bunch of Transphobes."

They will never be happy. You are like Chamberlain trying to appease Hitler. The man wants a war and a war he will have one way or the other.

No. More like follow the rules you agreed too because we the Staff are no longer going to be lax.

*looks over rules* Where, pray tell, is there a single rules violation in what you described? Unless it reaches the level of dogpiling, or you follow each other to every single other thread to continue to yell at them, then if anybody reported that we'd roll our eyes and reject it. What is so difficult about simply following the rules as written?

I think you're safe. As Boot stated, this is really just enforcing the rules as they were already written. Spartan303 has gone on record saying that the vast majority of the site is perfectly fine. I was alarmed when I first saw this pop-up, but in the past few pages, I realized I might have knee-jerked a bit. Most of the others seem to be moving in that direction too.

Yup. Its basically saying that the liberal standards will be enforced, even though those kinds of standards and people are the kind of people we came here to get away from. We already have Barcle to fulfill our quotient of obnoxious leftism. Do we really need more?

See stuff like this is why I wonder at times if we need to skip the cold war and just go straight to the hot one. Seems like no one is going to be happy until their enemies real or precised are out of sight, out of mind and that's never going to happen so long as the internet exist. stuff tends to stick around here.

Because it creates doubt in what people will post in the future, innocent and within the rules or not, for worry that a member of staff may infract their post because of personal views/bias... which is why a lot of people walked away from (especially) SB, SV, and the like. It may not be true, but it's all about perception.

As a ripple effect, it'll affect board culture negatively because now there will always be a niggling feeling in someone's head, even at the back of their mind, that an innocent joke will be infracted for some reason: even I suffer from this. You can thank the staff on our sister sites for instilling this perspective in people. It's also why people are partially reacting as they are now.

So, yes; I understand why, but I still think this is a screw up.

This isn't a "tea house": it's a bar or pub that regulars go to, know each other, and shoot the shit.

I've never been staff anywhere else, could you please be so kind as to give me the benefit of the doubt that I won't act like those people? I get it, I really do, that people are gun shy here, but seriously.

Oh, I do give you and the other staff the benefit of the doubt -- @Spartan303 especially, given that he first hand experienced that shit from his former colleagues on SB, but it's not just about the personal level e.g. the person but the position. You're staff.

Can we stop insulting Neville? He tried to save the last gasps of a sane world from a war which was going to destroy it forever. He failed, and then fifty million people died, and I suppose his failure was inevitable, but at least he tried to save fifty million people from dying and the whole interwar world, the last gasp of a good and ordered civilisation, from being utterly destroyed.

I did not appeal because I didn't at first know how to react or wgat caused my infraction until I saw this thread.

Also, I didn't call the SB mods faggots. I called the CCP shill that. Said shill is known yo be friendly with mods and able to quickly summon them yo his aid when someone badmouth Glorious China hence why I reffered to him as a moderator pet, much like one would reffer to a student who kisses professor ass as a teacher's pet.

Something of a moot point, but I wanted to make it clear. The concept of no-no words in itself I find a bit problematic a stifling to discussion. It forces a artificial atmosphere instead of raw uncensored debate. I wod much rather see it as a "don't push your luck" rule instead so people can say anything they want but still be reprimanded if it's too much.

Calling someone a faggot? Low brow, but ok.

Spamming "Nigger" in all caps over 30 times in a post? Yeah no you kinda pushing it, infraction.
If you take issue with an infraction given to you, go to the Appeals forum and Appeal it. If you take issue with a rule on TS or think that one should be modified then make a thread in Questions, Comments, and Concerns articulating your position. This thread isn't the place for either appeals or general dicussion about

No one wants a repeat of the PM fiasco. But we've been lax enforcing the rules. You know it, we know and others have seen it and taken advantage of it. For the most part the boards are fine as they are. But people agreed to the rules as we laid them out. There's no new 'Gotcha' rule. No pandering. Just us Staff stepping up to do the job and asking people to abide by the rules they agreed to abide.

Its really that simple.

He had good intentions but he was an idiot. It was clear what was going to happen (Hitler had zero interest in peace, and everyone from someone shoveling shit from a sewer to a professor at a university could see it), and he naively buried his head in the sand to try an appeasement strategy that was doomed to fail in the first place and that cost us dearly.

That's why he's remembered in history as a fucking moron. But, this isn't the topic for discussing historical foibles.

On a side note, I disagree with "faggot" not being a slur. While it has entered general usage as a common insult (specifically from young gamers) that has no intended connotations towards homosexuality, it's still intrinsically linked to it (unlike "twat", which started as a crude label for a vagina but now just someone acting like a fucking idiot/acting out of order).

As I said, I don't disagree with the intentions behind this... but it's all about perception from the users. On that front, ya'll stepped in a shit sandwich, especially given our origin story (fuck, I sound like a comic book, heh) had this as a key element... yeah.
“Jokes are okay, but not the ones I don’t like” is the biggest red flag of all red flags. I hate that policy with a burning passion, and it’s already on full display against something fully innocent.
This too. I get that it was a joke: I found it personally distasteful and disagree with it, but I understood it was a joke. His point was made when he got threadbanned for it.

Edit: this also ties back into my first point about people now having that niggling feeling in their brain about posting something, now.
