Woah! Rumours say Interstellar 2 is happening!

Primarch to your glory& the glory of him on Earth!
The article is from a Finnish movie - and tv-series magazine and I will translate you the relevant bit to the thread.

Nyt kuitenkin huhuillaan Warnerin uudesta projektista. Christopher Nolanin Interstellarin jatko-osa on ilmeisesti suunnitteilla. Tai tuotanto on jo niin pitkällä, että käsikirjoitusta rustaillaan.

Interstellar on Warnerin tuottoisin itsenäinen elokuva, joten jatko-osa on perusteltu jo pelkästään rahalla.

Tarina jatkuu ilmeisesti suoraan siitä, mihin ensimmäinen elokuva jäi.

Translation:

Now rumours are circling Warner's new project. Christopher Nolan's Interstellar apparently has a sequel being planend. Or the production is so far advanced that the script is being written.

Interstellar is the most productive independent movie by Warner so a sequel can be argued for simply by monetary interests alone.

The story apparently continues straight from where the first film ended.
I feel conflicted. On one hand I loved Interstellar. Loved the sense of discovery in it and going where no man had gone before shadowed by the desperate battle against time to find a suitable home for mankind before it's too late. Also loved the theme of what Cooper's personal sacrifice of life with his family for mankind which also saved his family.

But a sequel can not possibly catch the magic of the first one. First one by itself was a solid well told contained story about mankind's rebirth from a dying species stuck on a dying planet to a trailblazer of interstellar exploration. But I also want to take the risk to just get more Interstellar. Man the audiovisual awe will alone make this a must-watch at cinema.

What is Interstellar 2 even going to be about? The first one was about finding a new home for Earth, the discovery of FTL, and how Love is the key. Unless it's a fictional documentary on the founding of a federation-esque government system.

Hopefully it has some epic space battles in it. It's been too long since we had a proper one on the big screen.

I would throw another vote into 'what would a sequel be about?'

Hmmm...
Could it be someone trying to manipulate time to save someone else? A son who realizes that his dad isn't dead yet?

Could it be someone searching for whatever far-flung civilization created the tesseract?
In the original film, Cooper theorizes that future humans created the tesseract to help humans. There is no reason for his wild guess to be right, but it is an interesting theory. Humanity was near the brink of extinction when the wormhole was captured by Jupiter. A civilization that evolved after the population bottleneck caused by the Blight might have decided to engineer the past in order to save more humans. If they weren't erased by their tinkering, it would be interesting to see what else they would tinker with.

Yeah, Interstellar is a nice, closed narrative. No need or reason for a sequel that I could see.
