Space battles by contrast is a canadean held website controlled by some one who really isn't that involved in day to day stuff. It also has open Antifa members. Canadean anti terrorism laws are actually a lot more draconian then American ones all it takes is one bad incident and one phone call and their will be a massive purge.

Considering how Squishy stepped in to decide the opposite when the outcome was decided that could happen. I just don't know if that site will have the metaphorical happening of your doomsday scenario.
Yeah that's current Canada, right now Canada survives by taking money from the parie states and using them to subsidize the rest of the country. Thing is the current Canadian government is hostle to the one industry that keeps the country functional oil.
This means Alberta who is paying for canda's current prosperity is having their industries that allow Canada to function undercut because of political bullshit. This is an issue for albertians that they consider to be a survival issue.
And oh yeah succession is legal in Canada....
Thats not a good situation for canada and the next 10 to 20 years will determine if canada survives as a nation state.

Lots of salt though if US did that they won't have much of a standing with Russia over Crimea.

Unlikely but heres a map of Canada.
Alberta leaving means that british Columbia is now effectively cut off from the rest of Canada, if they want to get their goods to the rest of Canada with out going through albertian customs they either have to sail to the Panama canal, or drive through the north west territories. The rest of Canada likewise has to do the same to get goods to British Columbia with out going through Albertian customs.
The big problem is that the canadean government can no longer bribe Quebec to remain a part of the country, and they might just succede on principle at that point. That cuts off New brunswich, Nova Scotia, and New foundland from the rest of canada.
Holding onto British columbia and the Martimes becomes really difficult after that, and it might make sense for the Martimes and british columbia to leave.
That leaves you with a Rump canadea state centered around the hudson bay. You could build a country on that but its going to be far weaker then modern day canada, and oh yeah.... the only person who can prevent this is trudeu....

The funniest thing about the whole "Alberta stronk and fiscally responsible and support Canada!" Is the billions of dollars in cleanup costs on abandoned and completely unsecured oil production equipment estimated at something like 140% of the provinces net revenues (20% of those revenues also being transfer payments)
How much of that can be blamed on the restrictions and rules the Canadian parliament forced on the state?
Negative percent, the provincial org which was supposed to collect deposits was using oil prices from a decade ago despite re-estimating them monthly in order to over value company assets such that they didnt need to put down a deposit.
Then said company goes bankrupt due to the actual commodity prices and leaves another abandoned oil well (which alberta is already asking for federal funds to help clean up.)
That really doesn't matter if your economic survival is at stake now.
