The problem was that there wasn't the political will to go the distance needed to make an invasion worth the effort. If you occupy a hostile nation like we did, you have to do it with the knowledge that it will be a colony for at least a generation, and have the occupation forces and propaganda prepared for that. You don't try to go strait for the vote, you have to rewrite the textbooks, write them laws and only pretend they have a say in it, and play kingmaker for the local politics. If you don't do that, you are only going to get resentment.

If you aren't willing to do all of that, and I mean all of it, then you should limit yourself to retaliatory strikes and assassinations. Don't put boots on the ground unless you are prepared for the long haul.

Yeah, Iron blooded Orphans seems to play at "true mechs" being something of a hold over from more advanced times, and since true Mobile Suits are so superior to everything else, battle mostly comes down to who wins the mobile suit battle, because non-mobile suits are relatively helpless to mobile suits. And due to the "lost techology" aspect, certain mobile suits are vastly superior to other mobile suits, and you don't necesarily have a lot of the best, or any way to make more, so ones top 1-2 mobile suits being the other's top couple mobile suits is enough to decide a particular engagement.

So, it makes more or less sense if you accept the logic of the setting as given. The general problem is generally that mechs being vastly superior to everything else out of universe is hard to justify, so the in universe justification of how things work of "only a mech can really beat another mech" doesn't seem reasonable.
Is this the right thread? Think you misposted...

What did they mean by this?

Did you see the whole discussion on how Canada can handle an election with paper ballots and in a timely manner? Pretty funny, saying, "Uh, no, we're fine. We don't need voting machines." And how Canadians are now fighting with American liberals, because "efficiency" means we should use voting machines, even though we can manage fine without them.

A) Throwing shade at our election problems
B) Convincing Canadians that they will not have such problems

It sounds convincing to me that we won't have those problems. Doesn't mean we don't have other problems.

Funny I thought the Left wanted us to be more like Canada, seems like a nice place to start.

That is how a hoser sounds.

And there is plenty we can blame it on, such as people in certain parts of the country not voting with their heads.
I know, but looks to me like they are already starting to try and cover their own behinds. And I picture Canadian Liberals as hosers anyway. I mean what do you have to believe to be considered a liberal in Canada?

Edit: Just making a Canada joke. Don't take seriously yeah?

I was being wry, eh.

Being a liberal up here is complicated, you have actual liberals in the liberal party. And then you have provincial liberals which are separate parties linked to the main one, and it depends. BC Liberals are a big tent party, more centrist, but lots of actual liberals, including classical liberals.
