History What are some of your most contraversial takes on history?

Orthodox Christians would be just another of the many Christian sects the west has. The main differences between them revolve around minutiae.

The bickering between catholics and Orthodox christians looks pretty similar to me as the bickering between star wars and star treck fans.

Here's another really controversial take:

Had Poland expelled all of its Jews during or even after the Polish-Soviet War, then it could have ironically done them a blessing since much more of them could have subsequently ended up surviving the Holocaust. This would have, of course, depended on where exactly they would have ended up, but Poland, at 90%, had one of the highest Jewish Holocaust death tolls. In other words, they would have been in a better position in almost any other country, with more Holocaust survivors, perhaps even many more Holocaust survivors.

This is also why I think that Joseph Stalin ironically made a mistake in not deporting more Jews from the Soviet Union's westernmost territories to the Soviet interior in 1939-1941. It would have been brutal as Hell, but it would have also ironically saved most of these Jews' lives from the impending Holocaust since it would have placed them outside of the clutches of the Nazis. As it was, in real life, Stalin saved the lives of over 200,000 Jews in such a manner:

Ehhh not really. Most would have gone west. Weimar Germany was pretty much the most tolerant place in Europe at the time, so Jewish people would have fled there.

And from there, they would have moved to Britain, France, the Benelux countries, the US, Canada, Australia, South Africa, or Palestine, all of which were safer for Jews during the Holocaust relative to Poland.

.... not really, a jew leaving when Hitler took power wasn't very easy. You had to prepay several years of taxes which makes it very hard to get out. Second another country had to want them. Both the US and Canada turned back those who weren't connected, educated, or rich. None of which the polish refugees would be.

Even so, over half of Germany's Jewish population did get out. Even if the comparable figure for the Polish Jews would be, say, 20%, that would still be an improvement over real life.

The only nation that was taking in Jews from Germany was fascist Italy. There was also a point where Japanese wanted to import Jews. Ironically it was because the NAZI's conspiracy theories painted them as a superior race. I think there were a few other diplomats that accepted Jewish refugees, but it was only Italy that made it national policy.

Japan took in a lot of Jews because of one guy, Chiune Sugihara, who just started stamping visas like mad. They were transport visas though, so IDK how many actually stayed in Japan.

Yep, Japanese believed that the Protocols of the Elder of Zion were real when they first found out about them lol!

Yeah one of histories great ironies, a Japanese diplomat saved jews from the Holocaust, while a nazi diplomat saved the Chinese from the rape of Nanking
Even the worst groups have some good people who just got stuck there.

Lt. Gen. James Longstreet, fr'ex, was pretty much the only Confederate General to join the Republican Party and did lead black troops after the Civil War.

EDIT: While he wasn't a shining example of "I'm not a racist" he was certainly less racist than William T. Sherman. Sherman thought that sandbags were more useful than blacks on a battlefield.

It became a shithole for the people who actually lived there. But yeah, if you want gangs of homosexuals, prostitution at every second corner, and the first appearance of transsexuals, it was the nation to be. Fuck what the locals want, eh?

Frankly, the Weimar Republic deserved to burn. That the nazis took over was a tragedy, but Weimar continueing to exist? Would've been only marginally less bad for Germany. And that's my unpopular opinion on history.

Its a shame we never learn from history.

Still looking for the Sherman quote if that's what you want evidence for. It's buried in a book somewhere. I just need to find it.
