If Non-Japanese Fictional Works were turned into Anime; how would they change and look like?

Disregarding Sci-Fi and Fantasy, perhaps Earth's Children by Jean Auel

Or still including Sci-Fi elements, Ranks of Bronze

I really don't have an specific example in mind, but the anime/manga industry got a lot of experience making stories about common activities without introducing too many foreign elements in the final script.

For example take a book about the management of a bakery, usually those are not made into an animated series, instead when showing how does a bakery works nowadays the west either produces a documentary or a reality show and it would be rare to the point of inexistence a cartoon or a comic about managing a bakery that actually have the day to day operations of a bakery instead of completely unrelated plots that just happen to take place in a place that occasionally sells bread.

But in Japan those kind of slice of life animes are common so at least their artists/writers are more experienced in the art of adapting some non-fiction, non-action, novels into something that makes sense to the people working in those business and enough support from the animation industry and their target audience to properly develop such stories as they deserve.

As someone who treasured them when they were younger, I think the Percy Jackson Books would have done far better as an animated series than as films.

Could be a Shounen Manga, I’ve only read the original Percy Jackson books and the first volume of its sequel series, but from what I know, he actually gets more versatile in the next

Though NOT similar to Shounen Manga Protagonists who’s powersets are mostly Physical Enhancement+Energy Attack

Given that the wiki says his Hydrokinesis makes it so that he can control fog and ice

Going back to sci fi for a bit, but I think the star wars eu would make incredible anime.

Interesting characters, being able to animate cool worlds and aliens, excellent storylines, awesome space and land battles.

Just the x wing books could give you 3 or 4 seasons with plenty of time skips for decent filler.

...I really want this now.

I want to see a seinen manga depiction of Trevanian's "Shibumi" or "The Eiger Sanction".

Pip and Flinx would fit well into Anime. Each book could make a decent season with no filler, starting with the Tar Aiym Krang and ending with Flinx in Flux. Flinx works really well as an overpowered Shounen hero with awesome sidekick in Pip.

Then do a Skua September spinoff...

I...somewhat misunderstood the meaning, and my first thought was how ungodly many of the Louis L'amour or Zane Grey works that are out there with typical Western plots would make for cool storylines and be a fun mash-up mixture of East and West. I've actually not read a lot of them in particular, but books like 'The Lone Star Ranger' which I have had the chance to many moons ago has all the trappings.

Worm as an animation would be amazing. No way you could do it well live action. Also you have to go full on too. Embrace the grim dark.

You know, I can't help but think of pretty much everyone getting "Adaptational Attractiveness"

Otherwise this' how Taylor looks in 2D

You know, if Worm was done today in Japan's current anime climate, that maid pic would probably be the norm. Taylor would be beautiful with huge breasts and a skin tight spider suit that shows off her assets in all the right places. /Sigh. Gone are the days of anime that depended more on plot that loli factor (I am thinking you Blue Gender and Legend of the Galactic Heroes). In the US any anime would be super woke with Taylor and Lisa in an affair with Brian while Regent and Clockblocker and the fourth wheels to the love triangle. /sigh. I would choose have Worm done in the style of the first Avatar, just flip the ratio of grim dark and jokes and you will be set.

I am kind of surprised no US animation studio has taken off with a sci-fi or fantasy type story. Anyone know why?

I’m thinking more that she’s still got “A-Cup Angst” and surprised that she’s considered cute when she’s dressed differently or in less baggy clothing or something

What about Rachel?

Angry tomboy dog girl?

With muscles?

I’m guessing Brian would be really thin looking....not enough muscle on him

Harem stuff aside, I think there could still be lots of action, drama and sad stuff

The Undersiders will save Taylor and show she is their NAKAMA and challenge the entire S9 and somehow WIN

Dogbird Meido Taylor cries at the same time

I think you also forgot Alec crossdressing

I'd love to see "Rendezvous with Rama" done as an OVA/miniseries and the first three Dune books as an anime series.

Probably the "Empire of Thorns" trilogy for all it's "medieval meets post-apocalyptic transhuman remnants meets macchiavellian scheming" goodness.

Game of Thrones would be awesome as an anime, especially if it was a high quality one. (you know the type with beautiful visuals ala Miyazaki). In fact its probably the only medium that could do the whole sprawling epic justice now that a live-action adaptation has been done.

Hopefully someone can make it happen one day.
