We need to restructure our economy.

I think shop saws are designed to get busted and Managers are trained to ignore the busted saw. It is a conspiracy I tell you.

"Que X Files Music"

Well we need to drill that into the heads of these kids. Because I am having a hard time trying to get some Basement dwelling gamers I know to get off their butts and go to trade school to pay off their College debt. They would rather try and get and office job and not pay off the debt than get an electrician job and pay it off.
One issue that I perceive, though granted it's just my personal observation, is that there's a bit of "lotto ticket" mentality going on. You can live on an electrician's wages but you'll never be rich, only lower-middle class. Office job though, you have a chance to move up in the world, become a real mover and shaker and make millions.

It's not true of course, but that's what I've seen people use as a rationalization.

I get why but the process to get there can be much harder without "connections" and a knowledgeable mind of what you know.

I sometimes wonder if I was better off learning a trade skill where I can learn a valuable trade from someone rather than some degree for a vague career I was unsure where to go.

It also depends on the degree. I have two Associate Degrees. One in Machine Tool Technology (Trained Machinist) and the other in Engineering Graphics (Trained Draftsman) I work for a while in the later field but all that office work and office politics burnt me out. I did not like doing 14 hour days. That got old quick. So I changed field and after a few jobs became a Armed Guard making as much as I did as a Draftsman. Ironic I know.

For people like me who drive 90 miles a day for work............ We are doing the Irish Jig.

I am Irish-American and I'm offended by your racist characiture. Haven't my people suffered enough without our culture being appropriated and mocked?

The very words "Irish Jig" brings to mind the oppression of the English closing our places of worship and forcing us to hide our worship with dance in our homes.
