Warhammer Warhammer General discussion thread: Now with 100% more Space Marines

Welp, those comics be screwed unless GW keeps an eye on those writers and artists.
Not really. They have a lot of writers and artists who are good at what they do and would do a great job.
How much do you bet there's going to be LGBT propaganda with "Slaanesh isn't THAT bad, y'know"?
100 dollars it doesnt happen. Marvel may have some writers who would do such thing but it is unlikely.
That's not terribly likely, GW is not going to give marvel enough creative control for that to happen. The worst case scenario is we get some kind forgettable to poor story but it's drawn like squirrel girl or something.
Squirrel girl drawing sadly is not as good as it once was. Story is great.
That would result in 4chan joking the comic with "Slaanesh or Tzeetch must have gotten to this group and mutated them."
Perhaps but would never happen
Thats what I'm hoping for. Though you never know. GW could be trying to go mainstream to get the wider audience.
Eh not really. Having marvel publish them would be enough
I'm not sure if that's the goal, vs just appealing to thier current audience, since the general reaction thus far has been "eh, this could be really bad if they fuck it up, but it might be cool" rather than "this is dumb, who asked for this, I don't want it, etc", like how people reacted to the 40k kids books. 40k is, as nerd stuff goes, already fairly mainstream, and if you're in any part of the tabletop hobby you've probably already heard of it.
Anyone who thinks it will be some children's thing or light hearted thing has not seen a lot of marvel comics. Cancer verse, punisher comics (except the current team punisher book. That is more comedy) savage avengers, venom comics, carnage comics, the darth vader comics.
They can make books serious and marvel would probably put those they know can write and draw great and sell the biggest fr that market.

One cannot really write classic childrens’ stories in Warhammer...

Had a quick game today against a new player, 400 points of Dark Angels vs 400 points of space wolves. I brought a set of deathwing knights with an ancient and champion as backup, he brought a pair of Lts, a smash captain, 5 intercessors, and 4 wolves (this was everything he had). I'd actually donated various bits from my collection to build him the smash captain and give him an HQ with a bit more punch.

I had intended to go easy on him, hence picking a list where my only opition was "walk forward and smash" vs one that had at least a bit of flexibility which sounded fair to me. Unfortunately, it seems I'm rather bad at judging what does and doesn't represent a fair challenge, and I ended up wiping him....though he did kill most of the knights, so it wasn't a totally one sided win.

The group I am woth as far as I know is having thier first game this weekend and I think 1000 pts maybe 1500 pts. Eldar vs blood Angel's.

Eldar as a starting army. That's going to be....interesting.

2000 points of both Deathwatch against my 2000 points of AdMech.

It went well, but I lost because I didn't pay attention to my objectives and kept forgetting I could shoot characters with my Transuranic Arqubi. Definitely need to remember to snipe off characters and to use Conqueror Doctrina for my Dragoons as well.

He has a pretty good army from what I saw. Went with wraith units. A tank if some sort and some dark reapers.
Compared to me who has astra militarium and militarium tempestus scions.

It's not necessarily the unit breakdown, it's more that, in my observation, there are basically two sets of rules for 40k:

1. The normal rules
2. The Eldar rules

That's not the best basis to start out trying to play, IMO. It's not bad, exactly, just harder.

Scions, on the other hand, are pretty good. Probably one of the better close-range shooting units, but they struggle a bit outside that range band. I've actually be considering using my guard as scions going forward, it's not going to cost a lot more and it fits the lore of the unit a bit better.

I am using a mixture because the scions can get to mid distance and do a lot while the rest of the guard stay further back and employ the heavy weapons

So, for a long while I've been resisting the urge to buy a stormblade. Partly because I don't really need one, but mostly because I have a bit of an obession with plasma weapons, and it's main gun is the second biggest plasma gun in 40k. The biggest one is on the warlord titan, and so if I get a stormblade, there's only one place to go from there. So I made a heroic effort not to yield to my plasma obsession, least it take me to very, very expensive places.

Luckily for me, I've never really liked the look of the stock baneblade. It's too blocky and rivited and not really my kind of thing. Also luckily, none of my favorite (or even non-favorite) third party model makers make baneblade proxies, because it's such a massive investment. I was safe.

And then I found the Mortian super heavy warcrawler.

To my mixed fortune, family rules don't let us buy stuff for ourselves in the months before christmas, so on the one hand I won't be able to get it for months. On the other hand, I will have more than enough money saved up by then to pick one up.

Damnit.

I am probably going to invest in one or two more leman russes and 2 basilicks to finish out my starting army

That's a pretty solid formation. Russes are always a solid choice (I'd have a couple myself, if nuclear shrimp games will ever get their version of the Russ finished and up for sale), and basilisks are a huge pain to deal with.

The Eldar player is cocky about his army so I am deciding I need to make sure I have ways to wipe out his army from afar. I have 2 russes so far. 2 chimeras and a taurox prime.

What's your list?
Currently 20 guardsmen 4 squads as far as I can count. 3 or 4. A heavy weapon squad and special weapon each with a sergeant for all and one commisar in one. A voxcaster in one of them. Heavy weapons are mortar, rocket launcher, lascnnon, autocannon. 2 chimeras with multilaser heavy bolter one has hunter killer missle and both also have a storm bolter. A squad of tempestus scions and a scion command squad. Command squad has a tempestus prime with command rod, commisar, voxcasyer, flag bearer and a hotshot volley gun. I have a taurox prime with a choice for me on it. Missles or gatling gun. I have 2 leman russes. Both are battle cannon lascannon and 2 heavy bolters. I have a third one on the way and 2 basalisks on the way.
The squads have grenade launchers and the scions have melta and hotshot volley

An actual list would be more helpful. IE:

Space marine Patrol detachment
HQ:
Captain with Combi-melta

Troops:
Primaris Intercessors with bolt rifles (5x)
Primaris Intercessors with bolt rifles (5x)

Heavy Support:
Primaris Hellblasters with assault plasma (5x)

Fast attack:
Assault sqaud with jump packs (5x)
