I’m no expert, but if memory serves the Flanker is a beefy boy. I suppose it has a bit more room for juice and engines than the Mig 29.

The MiG-29 and Su-27 were designed as complementary aircraft based on the same set of aerodynamics research by TsAGI, the Soviet equivalent to the aeronautics part of NASA. The 29 is the cheaper, shorter-range point defense fighter, and the 27 is the larger, heavier, and longer-range counterpart.

I've seen the future...
Animarchy on Youtube has an informative, and entertaining video on the (HORRIBLE) history of the Russian Air Force, in multiple parts. Part 1 is below, Part 2 is coming.

Please note, the history of the Russian Air Force, from the days of the Tsar, to the Soviet days, to now. Animarchy apparently needed to go through a lot (truckloads?) of beer (or vodka) to get this made, considering the topic.

Also, as noted in the video, we can thank those wonderful Bolsheviks for inadvertently giving the U.S. a certain fellow by the name of Sikorsky who became one of the godfathers of American aviation.

This Grumman F-14 Tomcat, serial number 157986, has quite a notable history. It was originally the seventh of twelve original prototype F-14As built for service trials and afterwards was retained in house by Grumman as their primary development testbed.

She was refitted as the sole prototype of the "true" F-14B Tomcat fitted with Pratt & Whitney F401 engines, then refitted again as one of six prototypes for the "F-14A Plus" with General Electric F110-GE-400 engines and avionic upgrades, then refitted yet again as the prototype for the heavily upgraded F-14D "Super" Tomcat.

In other words -- this is the Omni-Tomcat, which has been every single model of Tomcat that ever flew.

Indeed. Without him we would've never gotten a whole family of helicopters. And not just the popular models like the Blackhawk/Sea Hawk or Sea King.

The CH-53 Super Stallion is always overlooked.

Hmmm maybe it's one of those cheap Chinese aircraft carriers I hear about. The ones filled with water or something. Drain and Lift!

For the F-22 vs. F-15 fanboys in the thread, you are both wrong:

What are people here’s views on the Eurofighter?

I’ve been lead to believe that as far as 4th gen fighters go, it has little to no equals. Granted that doesn’t help too much when America and China are already moving on to 5th gens, but the point still stands.

More or less on pair with the French Rafale. A bit better in A2A, a bit worse in A2G. The 2 best 4.5++ in service.

Rafale and Typhoon are more agile and have Meteor.
Unless you go for a heavy 4gen fighter class, and the comparison is the Sukoy 2x/3x family.
The F15 is more of an interceptor, and those two are more comparable to the F16
