This isn't really new, though it's certainly a new tactic.

As the strategy of trying to recruit from women and the various extreme minorities in the form of LGBTWTF hasn't panned out, they've fallen back on the classics of sex appeal and machismo.

And while propaganda can work, it can only work to a point. And someone who's somewhat annoyed about the lies they've been sold when signing up to risk their lives for family and country isn't exactly someone I'd be giving the keys to the castle, so to speak.
