Duke Nukem
Hail to the king baby
What would happen, what events would play out?
They would not conqer Earth, but some smarter Earth powers would try take them from within.Which would fail.
After that, they would choose some medium or minor states and start working with them. They could save them from stronger countries, and coalition of small nations would not take UNSC ship from within.
Yeah its likely they'd be making deals with everyoneIn order to build a successful coalition they sorta NEED the larger powers. I mean I'd love for it to be America Fuck yeah, but let's be realistic. UNS. Isn't loyal to the US anymore than anyone else. They're not going to play favorites.
On the positive side they're probably not going to like the crazy liberals since ya know the UNSC isn't exactly the most left leaning of organizations to say the very least
Maybe Right wing/Authoritarian. Certainly not a Libertarian group. Thankfully they never delved too much into politics.
Is the UEG or UNSC’s economy “planned”? If so, they won’t mind as much
Won't know until we look. And with the Infinity's engines, we can look pretty far.Given how Mars was the home of a fair bit of industry in Halo it's safe to assume that it will be colonized especially since I imagine that many of the USNC's planets simply don't exist in our universe
Honestly that's probably the role of a good half of her frigates which while not as fast as the Infinity are still way faster than anything the UNSC had during the WarWon't know until we look. And with the Infinity's engines, we can look pretty far.
I guess it's inevitable that in this forum, in this year, talk of the UNSC's biggest stick showing up in the modern day immediately turns to which political faction they will back. But there's more interesting things to talk about.
Consider, for example, the fact that the UNSC Infinity has internal storage for frigate escorts. It's got no peer opponents in the modern era, so it is now a heavy lift vehicle. That's its job, lifting kilotons of structure and supplies into orbit. Every space program everywhere is now obsolete as governments and powerful corporations can just lobby Commander Lasky to carry shit into orbit for them. Least hardest hit is Elon Musk, who will probably shrug and write the loss off as an opportunity to skip a few steps in his Mars colonization program.
Actually, just as fast as the US government can establish contact, Elon Musk is probably going to recognize the UNSC Infinity from pop culture and leverage his satellite network to make contact so he can ask to license the technical data package for the D77-TC Pelican and *sounds of someone furiously checking Halopedia* the D20 Heron.
So, yeah. We'd probably see commercial space stations within the year, if bureaucratic red tape doesn't get in the way. At about the same time, we might see fusion reactors being produced commercially, which is going to have some serious knock-on effects. When Europe doesn't need Russia for energy, when China doesn't need... nah. China's probably going to keep burning coal. The powers that be would probably like to switch over to nuclear power and be completely energy sufficient, but the fact that they haven't suggests to me that they either have other priorities or there is a lot of lower-level resistance to switching over from coal power plants.
The real question is whether the dream of colonizing Mars is going to survive the Infinity's arrival. The UNSC Infinity has a slipspace drive, which opens up other opportunities. Of the dozens of star systems in our stellar neighborhood, there's got to be some that are more hospitable than Mars, and possibly more hospitable than Venus.
Depends on whether the Infinity was brought back with her frigates. I assumed not because they weren't mentioned in the opening scenario.Honestly that's probably the role of a good half of her frigates which while not as fast as the Infinity are still way faster than anything the UNSC had during the War
The Nationalism vs Globalism angle is definitely going to be familiar to the UNSC crew, what with separatist movements nearly tearing the UNSC apart before and after the war. Some of them might even have long enough memories to remember that the Rainforest Wars and the Interplanetary wars that gave birth to the UNSC, and seek to prevent those traumatic events from rising in the first place. My argument wasn't so much about modern politics. More of a Nationalism vs Globalism argument.
I'm not sure the UNSC would go the conquer route at all. It's not Laskys style. But its clear that while Lasky isn't going to conquer the Earth, nor will he ignore the situation either. I think he will try to recreate the UNSC. A fact that's going to draw a lot of ire on Earth as no one with any sense wants to give the UN that kind of power. The situation that brought about the UNSC just isn't there, nor the sheer political, economic and Military will.
Instead what'll be created is likely something akin to the Earth Space Defense from ID4 II. A multinational effort to defend the planet but the Nations retain their Sovereignty.
I think the infinity's super macs/other WMDS would scare the shit out of the world powersIn the current states of politics, Lasky would be at his wits end. The deepening divisions along nationalist and even down to ethnic lines would make policing the planet a nightmare.
The Infinity would be facing mostly a mixed bag of problems, none of which its limited resources could hope to handle. The Infinity's tech advantage on the ground is very real, but also not enough to counter-balance the numbers. They can't tame China, they can't strong-arm the US, and they can't intimidate the Russians.
- USA -- World Superpower; would fear and resent this new threat and would do everything in its power to neutralize it. That may seem impossible, but the US could basically lock anyone who does business with the Infinity out of the global trade system, so there is some leverage. It would only be soft power though. Trump's space force obviously isn't ready.
- China -- Would lie, cheat, and steal to get ahead and it'll be plainly obvious that they're committing genocide to the Infinity. Watching the Infinity win a Land War will be somewhat akin to watching a Grizzly go head to head with a pack of wolves.
- France & Germany -- Would probably be their best ally, in hopes of restoring the world order they've relied upon, but expect France to try and call all the shots.
- Russia -- Would panic; the threat of Infinity to their hopes of retaking portions of Eastern Europe would be very deep. They'd probably join the US in trying to lock them out wherever they can, but with much less success. Still, Russia might use it as a means to annex certain states, assuming the US is willing to look the other way.
- Saudi Arabia -- Would welcome them with open arms.
- Iran -- Would hate them as much as the Americans.
The best option for the Infinity is to try and cozy up to the power that they think will work to complete their goals the best. And if that isn't the USA, whichever nation it is will quickly go on the shit list. So their only real options are the USA, Iran, and maybe Kazakhstan.
