Unfurling the US Space Force

So this is going to be a reality? :D

There's a game coming out for the PS4 called Boundary that's literally that scene from Moonraker, but as a whole shooter.

Astronauts with guns aren't exactly the most practical thing in existence. Destroying stuff in orbit with an anti-satellite missile is much easier than trying to board a space station, and in the unlikely event that military astronauts would need to go out and mess with an enemy satellite manually, by hand, during an EVA, it's not like there are going to be sentries waiting around to stop them. They won't need a gun. They might need bomb defusal gear if it's booby-trapped. Imagine that. Imagine a guy going up and trying to fuck with a satellite, and it has an anti-personnel mine built into it as an anti-tamper thing. That would fucking suck. That's also why we have things like the robot arm on the Space Shuttle. Much safer than going EVA.

Ah I love the smell of missile spam in the morning

To be fair anti-personnel mines would be anti everything in space given how little protection against projectiles spacecraft have. Hence we'd probably use the X-37B's descendants for such tasks since they don't involve risking a human and would be far cheaper to launch

The flag of the US Space Force was revealed today and well...

The Delta Sign which has been used by the Space Community alongtime does make it look pretty Star Trek.

He also talked about the "Super Duper Missile" which'll allegedly be three or four times faster then Russia and China's "low energy: hypersonic missiles.

But still... Video mostly pertains to the Space Force.

If I ever become President my first order would be to change the Branch name from Space Force to Starfleet. 😀

They are stupid enough to try and threaten our dominance on the moon

Alas, Comrade-General Curry, there is a Tesla X-series roadster afloat in the vast emptiness which has corrupted your idyllic, proleterian emptiness with its bourgeois cupholders. Space itself has fallen to capitalist exploitation.

Personally, I've just now thought of and will now subsequently be ever-disappointed by the creative bankruptcy (read: genius) of not having the 'US Space Force' just be titled the 'US Space Corps' and be made a corollary-service alongside the Navy similar to how the Marine Corps is.
Why?
For maximum bureaucratic infighting.
OH the position-papers and budgetary wars that would be fought! The grand office-politics! The battles waged in black ink over precedence and priority! Marines and Space Corps personnel serving aboard Navy rockets, jockeying for position and prestige! Oh the humanity bureaucracy!

They have always been apart of the Air Force. They should have made them like the Marines but with the Air Force

Clearly, the obvious compromise is that they should have called it the Space Navy, as a corollary branch of the Army. That way no one's happy.

Ex cept the Army.
Because the Army loves being the best branch and is competing with the AF.
Our barracks are still shit though

Unless we are making ships that we are going to have parked in some super high orbit I really think this whole thing is stupid as all get out. This sort of thing would maybe make sense in the late 21st century when we have Moonbases and cities on Mars but right now in 2021-2022, it's just really silly.

Not really. True we don't have space battleships or anything, but the current functions of the space force, satellite management, is still distinct enough from the normal functions of the air force that splitting the two apart is a reasonable call.

Is it? Where I hear the name Space Force my mind doesn't go to people keeping tabs on satellites. It goes to ships using railguns or something to shoot at other ships hundreds if not thousands of miles away.

It just sounds like Trump wanted something cool sounding and said fuck it I'll essentially make Starfleet but you know....without the fleet. So much so that the logo looks like Star Trek.
