Is Disney caves or even gives these 'fans' attention it might auger poorly for the show. These fuckwits complaining can't leave anything successful alone that isn't 'woke'.

Anyway I'm enjoying the new season so far. Though I did think Mando got a bit nerfed in the latest episode on that water planet. I hope that's not going to be a trend to try and increase the 'strength' of supporting characters.

Disney did not fire Chris Pratt.

*shrugs* It's hardly something exclusive to the left, and people are entitled to express their opinions, authoritarian or otherwise. Even an aggressive censorship scheme like the Hays Code was perfectly lawful back in the day since it was industry self-censorship and not government action -- and I'll politely remind you that the Hays Code was right-wing, not left.

Disney did not fire Chris Pratt.

The whole thing about Pratt was a perfectly harmless social media joke that an irrelevant handful of people doubled down on to an absurd extent. It was never actually widespread, but the media jumped on it because they jump on anything like a shark chasing blood.

(Seriously. It was literally a joke of, "We can only keep three Chrises, which one gets dropped?")

Actually the thing was with how Chris Pratt denied being apart of the Biden Harris campaign with the avengers

I'm really happy about this.

In part because Dark Troopers are awesome. But mostly because it seems that the reasons behind Gideon's experiments is actually something cool, instead of the lame "yeah, this is how they made Snoke" plot-line that I feared would be shoe-horned in.

The Dark Troopers may or may not be connected to the presumed Force experiments. What we saw in the episode looked more like the Phase 1 model DT, so they shouldn't have an organic user.

It definitely shows the Empire is still out there and still dangerous. Although the fact that they're running around in a mere Arquitens-class also shows how diminished they are.

I still hope that either it's a re-imagining of the Dark Troopers (as Force-sensitive abominations), or the transfusion thing is part of a plan to give Gideon himself Force powers. (He dresses rather like Vader, instead of like a regular commanding officer, and he already has the Darksabre. It could easily be in-character for him to be obsessed with gaining Force powers somehow.)

Anything except tying this into Snoke or the First Order or Exegol.

That would effectively be combining the Dark Troopers with the Shadow Droids from the Dark Empire II storyline. . . not an entirely bad idea, I suppose.

I agree with wanting to avoid the hell out of anything tying this to Snoke, but the idea of the hardliner remnants of the Empire coalescing into the First Order fits the time period and isn't stupid. They're definitely at least starting to hint in that direction, with the X-Wing pilot saying that Imperial activity in the Outer Rim seems to be picking up on a large scale, but the New Republic higher ups refuse to believe there's anything to it.

So it seems that certain 'descriptive audio' settings let slip a certain spoiler from the last episode:
Those we Dark Troopers that Gideon was inspecting, per EckhartsLadder's analysis of the audio settings some people have, which let it slip.

And do their scam of avoiding paying royalties.

Two bad movies. one meh rehash. We also got Rebels which utterly disrespected Thrawn and ended in glorifying terrorism...luring people into a ship and blowing it up, including countless non-combatants, yeah...

The Rebel Alliance has always glorified terrorism. It was simply more tacit in the old EU, versus the new reboot which shows it explicitly and has some level of philosophical engagement with the morality.

That was pretty obvious from their appearance. They look like a more realistic and detailed version of Phase 1 Dark Troopers; they have the pretty distinctive Phase 1 head design, but are more medium sized as opposed to the skeletal appearance of the earlier model, although they lack the fixed arm vibro-swords. They are clearly not as big as Phase 2s, and don't have the crazy huge gun the Phase 2s had.

FFS Y'all are dumb and missed the most important reveal in this episode.

Dark Troopers? Blah!

Moff Gideon returns? Who cares?

Carl Weathers making his Directorial Debut? Meh.

Fish guy rounding out the lovable Navarro Trio? Eh...

Ahsoka Tano next episode? So what?

Baby Yoda Puking after eating macaroons? Sure...

The BIGGEST STORY was the other reveal on the Imperial ship. No not the Dark Troopers or Moff Gideon... The Imperial officer... Portrayed by Katy O'Brien.

She's a martial artist and stunt woman and you know what that means???

Cara Dune and Imperial Officer are going to encounter each other sooner or later (likely on some mud planet) and that's going to result in...

FEMME FATALE FIGHT OFF!

*obnoxious air horns go off*

Will Cara's Rear NAKED Choke overcome Katy's Deceptive SCISSOR kick takedown?

You'll have to keep watching to find out!

So, interesting thing to note:

We have now seen every single scene used in the season previews. They literally gave nothing of the last half of the season away in those, which is kinda impressive in this day and age (and even then, Bo-Katan snuck in without a trailer appearance, too!).

Let's hope it's an indication that they've saved something really cool for the season's latter half, and didn't want to give any of it away.

Since it's far-behind the updates, I'm not going to stumble about trying to put a spoiler or text-blur around this...

The first episode of the second season is a lot of fun. Once again playing really hard on the 'space-western' stuff that made the first so enjoyable, especially with the setting and the general theme of the desert mining-town that one gunman with a big iron bespar armor set on his body saved from corporate mining-company takeover only to then be threatened by the animals and restless natives...And then has to team up with the wandering stranger who came into town and those restless natives to save the town...It's all very well-fitting and fun. So much so that even what I thought would be groan-inducing Boba Fett references came off pretty well.

The semi-focus of the sand people is enjoyable as well, and like with other props and stuff it's cool to see their weapons up-close enough to spot similarities with what I think were oldschool muskets--maybe that's been a thing with them for a while, but this was prominent enough for my easily-distracted butt to notice, and it's another very cool prop-allusion to stuff alongside the Mandalorian's blaster and...general Star Wars theme of doing that, I suppose.

Dunnow if krayt dragons were in the Disney-EU yet or not, but this seems to have solidly settled them there (alongside their pearls, I think? Unless that bit at the end was supposed to be an egg?)

Seems a promising start, even if there is a bit of the circular 'return to Tattoine' feeling on things.

Cycler rifles have been a Tusken Raider thing since way back in the old EU, plus they were seen using them in Phantom Menace.

Krayt dragons are in the novelization of ANH, so they've been core canon since the beginning; the thing is that they're not actually seen aside from the skeleton in the Dune Sea. This is the first time the EU's "greater" krayt dragon has been established in canon, as opposed to the smaller, more "regular lizard" like canyon krayt.

Edit: IIRC, the greater/canyon krayt distinction was invented by the 2001 EU reference book "The Wildlife of Star Wars", as a way of explaining the discrepancy between the long-necked ANH skeleton and the short-necked lizard appearance (based on Ralph McQuarrie's unused concept art) that was used in the vast majority of EU appearances of the krayt. It's really, REALLY nice to see this nerdy bit of detail so gloriously recanonized!
