This occurred after the Bail Project posted a $3,000 bond for a burglary suspect back in December of 2021 who, six days later, shot a waiter in a Chinatown restaurant in Las Vegas eleven times. Incredibly the man somehow survived. The Bail Project at the moment, has not. The victim of the shooting filed a lawsuit seeking $15,000 in damages from the Bail Project, which is based in California and not a licensed agent in Nevada where they had apparently posted the bail/bond for dozens of offenders.
The serial offender and attempted murderer, Rashawn Gaston-Anderson was later sentenced to 7-18 years after a guilty plea. The Bail Project was backed by numerous celebrities, including Richard Branson, musician John Legend and Danny Glover. In 2020 alone, the Bail Project raked in over $40 million in contributions/donations and helped thousands of folx post bail/bond in 2020 alone.
