Note that the French have also demonstrated their equivalent of the KF51 Panther, bringing back the 140mm testbed they had back in the day.

The French argue that the 140mm exceeds current gun performance by 70% or more while not being significantly *more* of a burden than the 130mm, since both guns require new turrets and autoloaders, versus the 130mm having only a 50% advantage. The Germans, conversely, argue that 50% is the exact minimum improvement specified for the joint next-generation tank program, and the 130mm is the smallest gun that delivers that.

This is why joint programs rarely ever go anywhere.

Bigger has the 'small' problem that you can carry less ammo. Like everything else, is a case of compromises.

Of course.Swedish would-be-tank with 140m gun was supposed to take 29 rounds - but it had coaxial 40mm with 200 rounds, too.
But - with smart ammo you could afford to have less of it.And you could be sure, that you do not need to fire twice at the same target.

P.S and french products must be better,RIGHT? if you do not agree, people in Paris would mock you!

The modified 140mm LeClerc holds 31 rounds of ammunition, versus 40 rounds for a standard 120mm-armed LeClerc.

The Panther KF51, on the other hand, reportedly carries 20 "ready" rounds of 130mm and an unknown number of additional non-ready rounds.
