Breaking News Speaker of the House vote: McCarthy voted down 14 times, wins on 15th

Any 'investigation' under him will be a sham and shell to protect the Uniparty while either giving a scape goat or two at the lower level (Impeach Biden, fat chance), or do sham/shell investigations that go no where but do 'debunk' the 'conspiracy theories' that threaten the Uniparty.

We've had this sort of song and dance before from both the GOP and Trump, and we've seen how it fucked us. We need new blood, not Uniparty or 'Trump-picked'.
We were going to get investigations into Big Tech, into the politicization of the FBI, and into the Biden family’s business dealings. What more do you want?

also Impeaching Biden at this time is a waste of time and political capital because it will get absolutely no where.

McCarthy has done ok as minority leader, and in terms of being the best pick, the choices are him and....who else? The saboteur bunch isn't presenting an alternative choice (they've instead tossed thier votes at like 5 different people), they're just rejecting McCarthy.

Jordan doesn't want to be speaker, so no not really.
Without a Speaker, the House cannot really do anything, and frankly the GOP majority is so a slim number of defectors can already torpedo pretty much anything the GOP wants as is.

Forcing McCarthy out is about resetting the GOP for the long term and building something from the ashes Bush and Trump have left it in, instead of turning what will likely amount to a near lame duck season for both parties into a Dem/Uniparty controlled one with a fig-leaf of GOP 'leaderships/majority'.

Jim Jordan is an acceptable compromise, and I trust him a shit load more than McCarthy.

That you actually think those investigations would have happened under a House controlled by McCarthy is a sadly hilarious testament to how many in the GOP are still playing the old game or believe the grifters in the leadership of the GOP give a flying fuck about the constitutients many of them hold in contempt in private, but still pander to for votes.

The GOP needs to use this as a moment of rebirth, not a moment of 'same-old, same-old' if they want to have a hope of getting even DeSantis into office in 2024 or 2028.

Looks like McCarthy lost the 5th round. I am of half a mind to say “Fuck it”. Have 9 McCarthy voters vote present and dare the Freedom Caucus to continue to oppose the rest of the Republican Caucus. Gaetz and Bobert both said that the would rather have Jefferies be the Speaker than McCarthy so maybe they should put their money where there mouth is.

Is this an entirely unprecedented level of disunity? I understand that him not winning on the first vote was the first time it's happened in a hundred years. Has any party ever been this divided?
There was a time it took 113 votes to finish, IIRC.

Anyway, this is what a healthy democracy ought to look like. I really fail to see the problem here.

“You aren’t sucking establishment cock! You’re not a real conservative! Democrats in GOP clothing! REEEEEE!” - Boomer cuck republican, probably.

The absolute temerity of members of the GOP to act on their own conscience and what they think their constituents favor. What is this, a democracy? No no, we need to uncritically vote Mcarthy in, without any concessions made to the populist wing, because “muh unity”.

That wasn't disagreement within one party though, that was different parties with their own priorities and objectives, right?

Which is exactly why the defectors should absolutely stand their ground. They have the position to declare that the tail will be wagging the dog for this entire session, the establishment can do as they dictate or NOTHING gets done.

They shouldn’t even care what their constituents favor, their job should be to do what they think best for themselves, their district, and the United States as a whole. In that order, honestly.

Like their counterparts in the Democrat party, all they really care about is seeing their football team win.

Scalise doesn’t want to be speaker and is supporting McCarthy, as is Jim Jordan. This is just fucking ridiculous at this point. These 19 members are trying to torpedo any chance of GOP agenda passing for their own personal gain
How embarrassing. Is this the first time that stuff like this has happened before ever ? 😕

No, it happened before, but it's been about 100 years since it has happened.

Which just shows how fossilized and ossified the GOP and parties as a whole have become.
Last political realignment happened during the great depression. So closer to 90 years then a hundred

No, he was talking about a Speaker losing the first vote, not the general political brew up happening; that vote loss had not happened in 100 years
