The Committee plans on holding the hearing (the date is far from set yet) in regards to Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act which is the law that protects tech companies from lawsuits over users’ posted content and allows the companies a large amount of leeway in moderating that content.

Tellingly, the Committee's Democratic head previously opposed the subpoena requests but eventually allowed the Committee Republicans to move forward with it since the subpoena will also cover data usage and privacy issues as well. Many Democratic lawmakers however expressed concerns over the timing of this hearing, stating it should take place after the election. Many Republican lawmakers of course are critical of Big Tech's censorship of Conservative and Right Wing content on their publishing platforms.

That's part of it, but there's something else I think I've figured out. Because if the Republicans did do as the Democrats asked, and postponed everything until after the election, they'd start arguing that a full year from the election is too close, then two years, then three; until they just start demanding that the Republicans sit on their hands til the end of time.

One of the better points Trump made in the debate was "I was elected in for four years, not three and a half."

No sensible president or politician is just going to decide not to govern just because an election is coming up soon.

It's a dumb ass attack to use against him. And it was dumb when republicans used it against Obama too.

It's just dumb.

You're right too. If they cave, it'll just be further out next time they start saying "wait until after elections!"

Which they Are extremely fucking blatantly doing.

I saw someone mention that searching "proud boys" on google doesn't bring up their website.

Neither does literally "proud boys website"

In order to get their website to show up as the first result you have to type "officialproudboys" in quotes. So, at least that shows that Google hasn't completely deplatformed them, merely given them a -50,000 point bias.

You can practically hear the knives sharpening.

Honestly the left has done more damage to themselves in the last 4 months then the republican party as a whole has done in 30 years. Even if they win this election their going to be on incredibly shaky ground with a leader who has dementia and a woman in the wings who has less charisma then hilary Clinton. And if they lose their fucked hard too.

Bill Gates is offering his thoughts on the current antitrust scrutiny being given to Big Tech companies today in the wake of the subpoenas.

He says he was naive and honestly IMHO he is right. Microsoft was brought under antitrust scrutiny from the government only two decadea ago for having the audacity of pairing Internet Explorer with Windows... Big Tech nowadays is far more monopolistic and pervasive and the issue of pairing a browaer with an operatomg system as being seen as monopolistic os rather laughable nowadays.

Talk about tone deaf stupidity.
This is why they're doing it.

If Biden wins they know they'll get off scott free. They know they're boned regardless if Trump wins, so they're going all in for Biden. That's their only hope. They're putting everything they've got into trying to get Biden to win, to protect their own asses.

wow.....

In a normal media environment new organizations would look at one of their own being censored and some one running for office gleefully celibrating that censorship and would then promptly freak the fuck out. For reasons of self presivation if nothing else.

Today in a rally,Trump said that if Big tech continues with what they are doing, they will have their Section 230 protections removed

Well one thing is for sure: If the Republicans DO win this year and then after all that happened still can't be arsed to read the tech giants the riot act, then they'll utterly deserve to loose in 2024.

Twitter finally decided censoring news articles citing hacked material as oppoaed to direct links to hacked material is a good idea.
